We did the first FLR and with that you complete the application and send it off and the Hone Office then send you a letter with a bar code on it which you take to one of the rather few Post Offices that are equipped to take biometrics, along with a fee of £19.20p (credit cards not accepted - debit card or cash only)

I just recently got my visa extension for 2.5 years. HO will send you an acknowledgement letter (or sometimes they don't), a week or two after you sent off your application. Then a Biometric invitation letter (same day as the acknowledgement letter or next day), in the letter there is a barcode so it's a must that you bring the letter with the barcode with you when you go to the participating post office. From there you pay for Biometrics which is £19.20. Then the waiting game starts. Good luck!

They took 12 weeks for our application to be decided, not bad really. The quickest is 3.5 weeks I have seen!

Category A is when you are with employer at least 6 months or more prior to application and has two sub category :

    1) Salaried i.e where your pay or hours fixed and normally they mention how much it will be per year on contract and they will take lowest salary of the last 6 month and will multiply it with 12 to see whether you satisfy the financial requirements.

    2) Non salaried of Category A is where you work on hourly rate and your pay/hours vary each week/month and here they will add last 6 months salary and will divide it by 6 and then multiply with 12 to calculate how much you make per year.

Category B is where you are with employer less than 6 months or you are not making required amount in 6 months or working two jobs or irregular shift pattern

We applied under CAT A as my husband meet the requirement alone.
