    hi everyone sorry I've asked this before but we've confused ourselves last few months debating over in person or postal.
    We will apply by post in June as Flr runs out mid July.
    We know there is now the nhs fee now, any other new additions?
    Does my wife need a DBS criminal check doing..she has all relevant docs from Philippines wen she arrived 2.5 years ago?
    She works in care so can get a personal one if needed?
    We need to do biometrics at post office before hand correct?
    Is rest of stuff same as last time...wage slips/b.statements/letter from landlord/specific letter from employers/p60s...
    Original language test cert we used for first Flr still ok???
    Pls advise??thank you any help appreciated....thanks steve

    1. No need for DBS
    2. If you send off for a postal application then the UKVI will send you a reference letter to take to a PO that does the biometrics (check post office website for participating branches). If you apply for the personal service (same day decision) then the biometrics will be done there, you also pay the NHS surcharge when applying to a same day premium centre.
    3. The financials are the same
    4. Original English cert will not do as the rules have changed, search the forum relating to IELTS English Tests.

    Take a look at the thread below;

    http://www.british-filipino.com/index.php?threads/new-english-language-test.10431/

    If she has done a degree which was taught in English then she will need to have her degree compared by UK NARIC and as part of that process she can get a certificate so she is exempt from the English Test, she will need documents from her college as proof, see the link below;

    https://www.naric.org.uk/naric/

    I now regret that my wife didn't get the English cert from UK NARIC at the same time as she had her degrees evaluated, the rules for the English Test keep chopping and changing.

    We applied by post.

    After you have applied you will get a letter confirming that you need to go to a Post Office to get biometrics done.

    Take the letter to the Post Office with you as it will have a barcode on it that they need.

    Make sure the Post Office you go to is one that does biometrics, as not all of them do.

    To do that go here: http://www.postoffice.co.uk/branch-finder

    Enter your post code. Then on "Products and Services" check the box for "Home Office Biometric Enrolment" in the "Identity & Licences" section. Then search. It will tell you Post Offices near to you that provide the service.

    Hi everyone, we are at the stage now of applying for FLR, i do have one question, due to the sheer amount of time it takes for my wife to get her passport renewed we are going for the FLR first. However she wants to use her new name, some of the correspondence address has her married surname rather than the surname on her passport and others have her maiden surname. Do you think this would cause a problem with the home office?

    If we waited for the new passport to come through from the DFA we would be in July and her visa expires in June...

    Many Thanks
    Michael

    She can't use her married name. She has to apply in the name in her passport.

    It doesn't cause any issues though. Just put her married name in the section for other names by which she is known.

    Maybe put a brief explanation in the cover letter too.

    We applied using my wife's maiden name, as her passport is still in that name. The only things in that name were passport, BRP and wage slips.

    Everything else was in married name, but it was fine.

    Thank you Maharg, it is an expensive ordeal so i dont want them to kick it back for what we might think are trivial reasons....
