    i'm undecided whether to go for the premium service or postal. premium means a trip to Croydon for us--which will add about £80 travelling, to the £500 premium fee.

    its unlikely my wife will consider working till mid june anyway.:--i'm down to have an operation later this month--and i want her around to be my nurse for a while !

    has anyone applied for flr (m) in the post recently ? how long did it take to get the result ? did you send by courier or royal mail ?

    @Maharg applied recently by post, I think he got the nod in less than a couple of months.

    Update: 31 days (five weeks) so far. My debit card was charged within 24 hours and we got the biometrics application in 48 hours and returned it in 72. Other than that, complete radio silence.

    hmmmm. i wonder if these postal apps have been sat on to encourage people to use the premium service.

    The Home Office standard acknowledgement letter says that "unless" there is something unusual in the application they will deal with it within eight weeks

    10 November - Sent off application (Royal Mail special delivery)
    17 November - cheque was cashed
    24 November - Received letter to go to a Post Office to give biometrics
    28 November - Did Biometrics
    17 December - BRP arrived
    18 December - Documents returned.
