Hi there guys, have a question. I want to travel to PH to get my stepdaughter from there and return back to the uk with her. Would it be possible just to get a return ticket, or do i have to get a separate ticket for her?

You have to get a return for you and a single for your stepdaughter.

Most airlines do not allow a return ticket to be valid if the person using the return leg does not originally depart from the original location.

You may well be able to arrange that her seat on the return is next to yours but best to contact the airline to make sure that you can do that.

She is only 10. How would I book a child on the plane of I were to get a single ticket for her?

Children can fly alone, there is no law against that, but in this case she is not alone, you would turn up with her and be there during check-in (again plan the seats in advance so you are not separated).

The biggest issues you will face is getting through passport control in the Philippines, they won't just let you walk out of the country with a young child not without a hell of a lot of documentation and even then I would think this would be very hard, can her mother not be there?

edit: just to be clear, you will be flying as her guardian and you are going to have to be able to prove that, I am assuming she has the required visa's or a British passport already?

Oh no, it would be her mother who is going, just asking here on her behalf. She should be getting her visa soon (paid the extra for the IHS a few days ago).

I know it's not against the law children flying alone. What I was meaning here is that do you have to pay the adult fare for the child?

Aged 10 almost certainly full fare on most airlines, and most certainly with Emirates, unfortunately the fact that it is a single might make it more expensive as well, check the prices both as single and for a return originating in the Philippines to see if it is worth throwing away the return portion on her ticket, simple pragmatism if it is cheaper, airlines don't like you doing that either but if it works well go for it.

Actually I am wrong Emirates appear to show children as 0-15 years.

edit: I'm wrong again it is 0 to 12 years but minors travelling alone pay full fare, the web site will not let you book it so contact Emirates directly and explain the situation I am sure they will help out.

Have you checked regarding buying the return for your stepdaughter as a ticket originating in the Philippines, you are allowed to do that, go to this version of the Emirates website https://www.emirates.com/ph/english/ that is the Philippine site.

You would have to book your wife on the UK version of the site and your stepdaughter on the Philippine site, but honestly speak to Emirates and explain what you need and if they say no it has to be a single then see what you can achieve using their websites using a throwaway return.

    another edit :) :

I just did a quick comparison using the Philippine site for a flight from Manila to Heathrow and the (throwaway) return would be about £948, the straight single came in at around £670 so the single is the better bet.

Hi! I think you need to inquire also at Department of Social Welfare for a clearance, or else, they will hold you at the airport for processing.
