Sorry, but can you elaborate on "how sponsorship works" bit?

Are you going to visit a friend or family here?

Welcome to BF, do you mean you are applying for a visit visa for the UK to visit your loved one?

If you are, the onus will be on you to overwhelmingly convince the UKBA that you will return to the Philippines after the visit. Visit visas are extremely hard to come by as many Filipinos have overstayed in the UK in the past thus making it harder for genuine Filipinos to get their visa applications granted. My girlfriend was turned down twice for a visit visa but knowing what I know now because of BF I would feel more confident about getting a visit visa.

Please give the chaps here more details about your visa and I'm sure someone will offer good advice.

By the way, search the site for information relevant to your visa, its all here, you just have to dig around for it.

    Good luck :)

Hi florge yes I am going to visit my friend actually a boyfriend in London. He is going to sponsor me, with all the expenses accommodation the airfare and everything. This is my first time, and I am unemployed at the moment. Will I be able to get a visa? What's the best thing to do to convince the ECO that I will be returning back to the Philippines after 6 months? or what docs. do I need to convince them that I will not be overstaying in London? By the way what are the documents needed for the sponsorship. the UKBA site is pretty confusing. Thank you.

Hi Sir. Did you sponsor your girlfriend? and by the way Sir. I got stuck some of the questions in my form? Like how much the trip cost to you personally? should I put 0 in there.? Really messed up and applying for a visa is very hard.

Its difficult but not impossible to get a visit visa, take a look at the link below from a few weeks ago, its about a lady trying to bring a friend here from the Philippines, similar to your situation really.

This helps me a bit, funding yourself is a bit more harder than sponsoring someone. is that right? But still need to convince the ECO that I will be returning back to the Philippines after 6 months. Sir. is it possible to get a visa if for example you are unemployed?

Being unemployed can be an obstacle for a visitors visa, but again it all depends on a case by case example.

As an example, if the ECO comes across a visa application and they imagine the applicant would benefit from working illegally in the UK, but can't find any real reason the person would benefit from going home, they will likely decline the visa.

But, again it all depends. If a person was unemployed but had savings and had a history of traveling to and from other countries and always left before their visa expired, the ECO would consider their visa genuine and that person just wanted to see the UK for a short while.

To be honest Deanaly it would be much easier for your English chap to visit you in the Philippines, no visa required and no hassle.

I have managed my relationship perfectly well with just me doing the travelling to Dubai or Manila, save yourself the stress and hassle of a possible visa denial if you can.

My girlfriend had been to England on a visit visa two years before we met to attend a friends wedding, but as I mentioned before, once I was in the frame she was denied a visit visa twice even though she was earning a very high salary in Dubai and she was paying for three of her children attending university in Manila. The UKBA still said she did not have enough reason to return home. On the second visa attempt I went with her to the British Consulate as well, with bank statements and all the paperwork and still no joy.

What I'm trying to emphasise is that its much easier for your boyfriend to visit you in the Philippines till such time as you are ready to marry and come to the UK on a Spouse/Fiancée visa.

I know the feeling of disappointment when a visa is denied, don't go there if you can avoid it, you will have plenty of time to see the UK in the future if things work out with your loved one.

Hi Timmers :) he's been here twice last year May 2013, and last month Apr. 2014. Well Tim, I can't take another more year not seeing him, so I decided and I think it's time for me to visit him to UK, and experience what is life in there, and really want to settle, well not on a tourist visa. I want to feel the place if I like it or not. You know what I'm tryin'to say. But I didn't know applying for a tourist visa is so hard, really didn't expect it.

Do you think it is best to go for a fiancee visa then?

You should only go for a Fiancée visa if you both feel the time is right, something you need to discuss with the loved one. There is a lot of work in amassing all the documents required for the visa and I can tell you a considerable expense too. The vast majority of the paperwork required will be needed to be produced by your loved one as the onus will then be on him, to show he can accommodate you and has the finances to look after you without having to turn to the State for financial help.

If you are interested in the Fiancée visa please look at the forum "UK Immigration help" everything is there that you need to know. Anything you are not sure of please ask, one of the good guys here at BF will answer your questions better than I, but I will help you if I can. :)

That was my worry before, that if I apply for a tourist visa, I will be denied eventhough I have a job in Manila. So, we decided to go for a fiancee visa instead under the oremise that should I won't like living in the UK, it would mean that we are not meant to be together. Now, I still got some conmlaints living here ie weather, but I can't bear living away from my hubby.. so, I think we made the right decision.
