    Hi forum,
    More help required please.
I intend to marry my Filipino fiancee on June 25th next. Is it then in order for us to honeymoon abroad, Thailand to be exact on June 30th, and will my then wife need to change her passport name before she can travel there?
Her 6 month visa expires at the end of August. Are there any other obstacles to consider?
    Many thanks.

But bear in mind the flr will be in the same name as the passport.

There is no requirement for her to change her name immediately after you marry, or at all. There is no automatic process that changes someone's name when they marry. If she hasn't formally changed her name then she may continue to use any immigration documents and passport that are in her current name.

Your fiancee only has/will only have a single entry Visa for the UK. I suggest you delay your honeymoon until after she has Further Leave to Remain.

That's a good point. If the 'marriage' 6 month visa is indeed single entry... then they can't go.

    Hello Bigmac,
We've changed our minds about honeymooning abroad as my fiancee come wife wants to see as much of the UK as she can, as she is so excited to be here.
How soon after marriage is the FLR(m) required, a week, a month or before the Visa expires?
    Thank you for your help.

    Before the visa expires.

You need to have successfully applied for (and received) the first FLR after you marry, but before the 'marriage' 6 month visa expires. Given that, I would start your application as soon as possible after you marry end June and investigate the options for a speedy service..

You can get an FLR processsed on the day of application for a pretty substantial fee.

There are pros and cons to it. If you need your passport in a hurry or if your wife intends to work then it is worth getting the on the day service as postal applications can take a while.

I think it costs an extra £500, but that money can be offset with ability to work if that is the plan.

We did a daily service for our first application for FLR but did postal second time round as there was no real benefit to doing it quickly.

    Hello Maharg,
We intend to use the same day service, knowing that the cost is extra, which is worthwhile to get a quick decision.
