My life is now complete! I have Grand Theft Auto V (GTAV) :D

Okay, seriously. I queued up for over 2 hours to get the game at midnight on Monday night in the GAME store in the Trafford Centre – I won’t be doing that again. Although, it was an experience to join one of those midnight launch events.

As for the game. It is awesome!

For a lot of people, all they will see in this game is the violence, f words strewn all over the place, topless lapdancers (and yes they are actually topless), street walking prostitutes offering a range of “services”, torture, the N word being used by one of the main characters all the time and not to mention how the aim of the game is to basically steal things. I am sure a lot of people will try and take the moral high ground and condemn this game as simple trash and there will be talk about how it should be banned and what not.

And those people are simply missing the point of GTAV!

At its heart, this game (along with the other GTA games) is an action packed parody on modern life. Consumerism is torn apart, as is the modern love of reality TV as well as a whole ream of stuff I’ve yet to discover. The game is set in a warped Los Angeles called Los Santos with an equally warped version of Hollywood (called Vinewood), the city is home to drug gangs, bikers and probably every subculture you can think of. You get to play as three different characters, Michael – a retired bank robber who is coming out of retirement, Franklin – A young African American struggling to get out of his gang infested neighbourhood and Trevor – a former friend and co-bank robbing partner of Michael. Each character has a different back story and character traits (Trevor is a sociopath for example).

And so far, I’m loving every minute of it. Suddenly being offline isn’t as boring as it could have been.

Who else on here is a gamer?

Hmm, it is an adult game with very adult themes (drugs, sex, crime) so I wouldn't promote it to teenagers under 18.

    Damn good game though :like:

I've got a PS3 at thome but rarely have the time to even turn it on these days. I used to play quite alot, mainly racing sims (F1) and modern warfare stuff. Stopped playing the racing stuff online as there was too many idiots that want to take you out on the first corner and i stopped playing modern warfare online because I was fed up getting my arse kicked by 8 year olds!!! Must admit I never got into the GTA games. At the moment, when I get a chance I'm playing Sniper 2. I like the stealth nature of it instead of running round all guns blazing.

Well, apparently half his class have got it.(Stretford Grammar) :D He is waiting for the PS4 to come out before he gets the new Grand Theft Auto. His mum is allowing him the game now.

Yup, I too have known the shame of being schooled by a child a third my age on Call of Duty :( Though I did take some slight satisfaction hearing the little oik getting told to go to bed, followed by an "But Mommmmm..."

Yup, took em long enough to make it as well!

I wonder if they will rectify that. Anyhow, my son is now thinking of buying it for his x box. And in any case he wont get the PS4 till the end of November (release date I beleive).

There are a few of us in work that have the game now and play it every evening and we joke about what happens in the game. But a couple of these guys have teenage children and they've already decided not to allow their children to play this game. Mainly, due to the constant swearing - as an example, drag a man out of a car and steal it and he might shout out "you f***in' c*ck sucker" or how one of the playable characters is introduced having sex with a meth head woman, then after her boyfriend finds out he stomps his head in.

Like I said... It is a very adult game!

I see. I didnt know it was quite that bad. My son claims that half his class have it but then he would, wouldnt he. I will have to have a word with his mum as she is in charge these days.

Not to mention, how if you go to the strip club and get a lap dance, there is a way to increase the "like" metre for the dancing lady. Once it is maxed out she might be ready to take you home to her place for a booty call... :D

For young minds not quite developed I wouldn't recommend it. For adults who know satire from reality the game is a great way to waste away a few hours.

To see how the game plays, there are youtube videos that play out the game. Take a look at a few of them and decide from there.
