    Welcome Nick.

You should join a dating site such as "Date in Asia", or are you hoping for a Filipina already in the UK?

Anywhere rather I don't mind. Which is the best site without scammers?

    Thanks :)

They all have scammers! The trick is to spot the good ones from the bad ones.

A scammer won't wait long before she is asking for money, whether it be for her sick mother, near dead donkey or flight to meet you. Others would be far too shy to ask.

But the thing is, you need to join and just chat with as many people as possible. Don't get serious - not right away. That way you can learn to drop the scammers and the ladies left will be happy to be pen pals (of the digital age).

If you really want to meet Filipinas with the view of a enjoying long-lasting relationship with one, I would avoid dating sites. The sure-fire way of achieving your goal is to fly out here and stay in (say) Cebu for a week or two. That need not cost a fortune as Philippine Airlines, which operates the only direct service between the UK and the Philippines, currently has a Promo for its London service and a return ticket can be had for around $790 including surcharges and most taxes. A reasonable hotel in Cebu City costs upwards of $20 a night. Arm yourself with a local SIM card and prepaid credit (called "load" here).

Having arrived, go to Ayala Mall's new terraces and sit at a table for two outside either Starbucks or Bo's Coffee. Have a cellphone on the table in front of you and when you spot a lady you like the look of, pick up your cellphone and use it to point to the empty chair whilst engaging her with a smile. She may not have the time to sit with you but if she likes what she sees, she may well give you her number before continuing on her way. She will expect you to send her a text message introducing yourself fairly quickly. You'll be amazed at just how successful that strategy is.

    It worked for me!

I liked that one Markam, don't know why but as I was reading about your strategy I was picturing a Mr Bean sketch in my mind where everything went wrong, loved it!

    Hi Nick, welcome young Sir.

Like Markham, I wouldn't recommend dating sites, no reason you couldn't find a young lady there but its risky for all the reasons you know about. Going to the Philippines is the best as Markham has suggested but it depends if you are comfortable at propositioning girls or not and don't mind being knocked back. And there is always the possibility you find a bad girl just as you can on dating sites.

Personally I'm a coward and old fashioned so I like the chance meeting way, so yes, book the flight, get out there and find yourself the girl of your dreams.

If you don't fancy going as far the Philippines you could also go to Dubai, Manama or Muscat there are many many OFW Filipinas there and do exactly the same as Markham suggests. I met my fair lady in Dubai in a karaoke bar.

One last thought nearer to home, I have been working in Southampton this week and there are lots of Filipinas there I noticed, don't know why that is, maybe someone here could explain why, is it something to do with the cruise ships?

Filipinas are very easy to talk to and very friendly, if they do knock you back they will be very polite in doing so.

    Good Hunting

Where has your love of Filipinas come from if you don't mind me asking?

I have my own reasons like the other chaps here.

Hope you don't mind me being nosey :)

Not sure I would be as bold as Markham but then again, nothing ventured... For me a more comfortable situation would be as Kuya suggested, look on a dating site, DIA is free, so it's just your time you wasting should you be approached by a scammer! In the interests of equality not just women scam men, it can actually work the other way round too. A dating website will give you a taster of what you want and what your potential partner is looking for too. The dating website was all part of the journey for me and I wouldn't have wanted it any other way. There are lots of ladies so there's nothing wrong with chatting with several at once and see what comes of it. Should you find that you "click", get booking a flight :)

I don't know about that, John, but he';s certainly popular with two members of my household. One of the Disney channels shows both the cartoon version and the real-life version with Rowan Atkinson. My elder son, just two-and-a-half, prefers the Rowan Atkinson version but his nine year old cousin prefers the cartoon version. Strange that, I would have imagined the other way around.

    LOL

A friend of a friend is looking for a guy.

Though Cebu is a good option, there is more variety in Manila :p

I suspect the cruise ships have a decent filipino crew contingent both service and engineering staff and entertainers. My wife has friends and family that work on cruise ships around the world. I think there is a sizeable filipino community in Southampton too, they had a 'Fiesta' down there back in June, I couldn't attend as I was attending a certain someones wedding at the same time!

As for Mr Bean, that appears to be my nickname over there - i must have the look of Rowan Atkinson to the filipino eye! I have revenge over my wife though, she is now Mrs Bean whenever she teases me about it :)
