Hi there! Or malibog ka, as I was once told was the official greeting in PH...!

My name is Andy and I live in the Manchester area. I'm in my mid 30s and I support the Rams.

I've been to the Philippines many years ago, and had quite a 'cultural' experience there. After many years of not being bothered, I now want to marry; however, I'm not really up for dating english anymore. I think a Filipina would probably make a better wife, and not just in terms of looks.

So I want to learn how to do this. I'm doing the online dating thing, and I'm kind of good at wheedling out the frauds and fakes. I don't know the procedure involved to get married, and to get them here (as, let's face it, I wouldn't really be able to make any money there) - but I'm guessing it's going to involve three things: time, money and bullshit. I want to minimize all three, which might be about as realistic as curing the common cold.

I'll read the past posts, but I'm all ears to any advice from anybody. Hope you're all doing well.

Hello Andy and :welcome: you could do worse than finding yourself a Filipina wife, you seem to have your head screwed on regarding the online dating scene so that is a big plus in your favour. I wouldn't worry about the ins and outs of getting married to a Filipina, I would first concentrate on finding one :). One thing I would suggest is that you find yourself a Filipina who has never been married before as there is no divorce in the Philippines and an annulment of marriage is costly and frustratingly time consuming as myself and other chaps here can vouch for here at British Filipino.

The visa process to get your beloved Filipina isn't too bad but it requires an eye for detail, all the information regarding visas and so on is contained within this forum and you can of course post if you have any specific questions. No visa experts here but people can advise you here through their experiences.

Good luck on finding a beautiful Filipina, they're the best! :D

    :welcome:Andy.
I agree with Timmers about Filipinas being the best.
You will hopefully find a lovely lady there and start a relationship leading to lasting happiness.
    Search this site regarding visas.
I was married in Phils and my wife has been in UK almost 6 years.
She got her settlement visa in Phils then after moving here she received her ILR (Indefinite Leave To Remain) then her British Citizenship.
It is a long road and a costly one but well worth it IMO.

    The journey starts.........

Nice to meet you Timmers. And Aposhark, what a name. Thanks for the reply so soon,

I'm more worried about the process more than anything else, as there are a lot of lovely ladies there should ones brain (not male brain) be applied to detect them, so what you guys are saying is already reassuring me.

The journey starts, haha so true. It's funny, and a bit hippycrap perhaps, but I feel the journey is meant to be taken.

Hi Andy and a warm welcome to the site I m fairly new on here but the guys on here have been a wealth of information and support,I met my Juby on line and looking to marry her in the Philippines early in the new year with her family around her!She has been a widow of 10 years and has spent a long time bringing her 2 girls upto be fine young women and was then looking for a life of her own a new love etc then I came along!!!!
Like you say there are certain ladies of dubious nature on all dating sites of various ethnic backgrounds I set myself an age criteria as a start point ie why did a 20 year old babe want an old fuddy duddy like me? I also had this idea that if any asked for money they went into file 13 and yes that happened but I am sure of you are aware of all the pitfalls.
Like you say I also found the whole cultural experience of visiting the Philippines such a wow factor from the minute I set foot on the soil.
I am going through the process of gathering all the paperwork needed to support the visa application and am looking to marry Juby early in new year and apply for the visa straight after that and then bring her over.
    Good luck

When did you know that Juby was 'The One', haha I make it sound like a cherub descended and played a tuba or something. I mean, did you have that feeling, or was it just you spoke to her the most, or what?

Hope it all works out well for you.

Welcome Andy! After a lifetime in the UK, I now live in the Philippines where I am married with two children. Mae and I didn't marry here - neither of us are fans of bureaucracy and red tape - but in Hong Kong which was comparatively pain-free and probably a lot cheaper, all things considered.

Be very careful with the dating sites. Many of those you will encounter will not be real girls at all and a good percentage use dating sites to extract cash from foolish foreigners. The Golden Rule is do NOT send money to anyone whom you've not met under any circumstances.

Hi Andy it was the cherub haha but no seriously it just developed at first through conversations skype e mail and facebook then I went out for a holiday which was kept very plutonic but what I did find was that everything she had talked about rang true without exception and that built confidence for me. Juby was very attentive and stuff we had talked about me wanting to do on my visit got done which told me she had listened and was caring enough to do what I wanted to do as she put it it was my holiday!!!! Juby was happy to show off her land and culture.By the end of the holiday I had grown very fond of her.So over the following months we grew closer and closer I help her with her english which is a hoot, and she helps me cook via the internet some of the foods I tasted over there.
Further visits have led to true romance and we are were we are in planning the marriage and her arrival into the uk in 2015,we both know at this point we will have to learn to live with each other that the culture difference is wide but we firmly believe that through talking smiling and openness we have a future
Hope this helps and very best of luck

Thanks to everyone. Cheers for that John. I think that is great, and you were patient and it looks like it will pay off. I hope it's okay to learn the process from you more?

Already I'm fairly sure I've found someone worth selling my right nut for, but I am a very suspicious soul so will keep testing until I am satisfied they are worth it all.

I am shocked to discover the law has changed, which means because of the £18,600 needed, 47% of the population in a free country can't marry who they want...must have missed the news that day.

You have to earn that per anumm not have it in the bank!!!!

I know. Considering that you don't have to have that to marry someone in this country, that's unfair. I suppose it's a great way to suggest a government is tackling immigration, to some.

I could easily earn this per annum, but I do agency work, and have the novelty of skipping the odd day here and there. It means that I'll actually have to live to work again, when slightly less is certainly enough to keep a Filipina satisfied...Sigh.
