Hi All BF Members, Hope your all well and fighting the fight to be with your loved ones of Philippines and beyond! Thanks to all members who have given me support and to contributing to this fantastic site. Bless you all. CB
My wife is from the north of Cebu island. She is a province girl. When we used to visit, we arrived in Cebu City then travelled to the Daanbantayan area (where we were married). There wasn't much to do in the north of the island. It was ok for a few days. Internet was hit and miss and very slow. Like going back in time. Some people prefer it that way. I haven't been back there since 2013 although my wife went back four years ago to see her family.
Yeah I have been to a number of islands in Visayas over the years. I think Siquor being the best island but as mentioned WiFi is terrible and Hi end accommodation over priced. Some jewels amongst it all but I prefer quiet to traffic and noise.
I spent a bit of time on siquijor in the last 30 years, it was better when there were 3 or maybe 4 beach resorts on the entire island,Dondeezco? Just outside siquijor Town was the largest, and the pier in Larena was a tiny wooden one rather than the current concrete port development, lot of changes. I knew an Englishman, Brian, bought a beach for cheap, right on salagdoong, called it paradise beach and put up a few huts, also Swedish matts did the same.
I liked Siquijor. I stayed for a few days and the ghosts and spirits never got me It was much more developed than my wife's island.
Luisa and sons in Larena as soon as you came off the pier, used to be terribly noisy but only 80 peso a night.
It used to be totally undeveloped, the maƱanagals, wakwaks and the dancing dolls of jesus butalid were all fiction, if ever your in Dumaguete go in the witchcraft room in sillimans museum, lots of voodoo dolls and incantations from isla Del fuego.
I went to the mountain to visit the spiritualist who used smoke to wash out bad spirits. Also gave me a coconut pendant to protect me. Amazing part of the Islands culture. A slippy ride to the top of the mountain.
Did you visit during Holy week? It's when everyone visits the mangcuculam in San Antonio to buy potions.
Hi Druk, I did not. However was a very beautiful yet surreal experience. Would like to visit during that time and now Philippines is off the Red List, I will be 100%
Everyone in Larena was telling me the puti babae waited at the cemetery at midnight to grab people, I went at 12 midnight on the dot, they were all surprised to see me unharmed the next morning, I have probably spent 6 months there all told but not even a glimpse of anything other worldly.
