Has anyone done this? Clearly if we want to go to Spain or France for a holiday at the moment then t'missus would need a tourist visa.

Is it pretty easy to get one? Or do we have to put up with the same crap that we have to put up with here?

I have been travelling to Europe with a Filipino passport. Been to lots of countries in different parts of Europe and have been issued a Schengen visa 5 times.

The difficulty of the "interview" is not as bad as compared to getting a US visa and it would also depend on which embassy you would apply from. Research about the requirements but it is generally the same for all countries.

If you are going to different countries, you would need to apply on the country where you are staying the longest and not your entry point. You would also need bookings, financial records, etc.

I have applied from the French, Greek, Czech and Spanish embassy. If you would like a longer validity, apply from the French embassy but the staff there are notorious snobs. Greek and Czech embassy were pretty easy.

If you would need help, just ask!

Thanks. I'll look into the Schengen visa thing.

Typical bloody UK, being outside of it. All we want to do is go to Paris on the train for a night for something to do so it might not be worse the hassle.

We got a Schengen visa for my wife early this year for our holiday to Portugal. The visa is free but the application was a pain in the butt. We are thinking of going to Paris for a week in 2014. It will be the same process, more or less, but different embassy.

For us we had to catch the ferry to Liverpool then drive to Manchester and stay over night in Manchester as there is a Portugese Consulate there. It worked OK but the travel and hotel meant that effectively, for us, it wasnt free - OK if you live in Manchester I suppose.

The problem is that you cannot get one by post or at least I don't think you can. So we will have to travel to London, to the French Embassy, I think.

When are you thinking of applying?
