    Hi All,

I am not too sure if I have posted this in the right area. My partner is now here in the U.K. under the Tier 2 Partner visa with no restriction to work. As she has no proof of address here in the U.K., can anyone please guide me how I can apply for a national insurance number for her? What documents can she use?

    Thank you

    Jai

Do you rent accomadation? For proof of address you can get her on your lease agreement.

You can also get her on any one of your utility bills.

    And also council tax documentation.

It can all take a few days but all do-able.

She will need her passport of course.

Call your electricity company, get your wife's name on a bill. Contact the council and update the council tax bill to show you both at the property. These are now valid ID - almost.

The council will send an amended council tax bill removing the single persons allowance. Ask your electricity company to send you a bill once you know your wife is on there as well. These bills are ID.

You can use these to get your wife listed on your bank account.

However, you don't need a bank account to get a national insurance number. To get this, simply call 0845 600 0643 and they will send you an application form. You should get the form in a few days. Fill it in, send it off with copies of the visa and council tax bill. They might ask for your wife to attend an interview in a local Job Centre Plus, but this is unlikely.

The national insurance number takes about 10-14 days in all (if memory serves me correctly).
