    1. Buy a return plane ticket to the Philippines.

    2. Get a bus, taxi or case need plane to any of: Fields Avenue, Angeles City, P Burgos Street, Makati, or Mango Avenue, Cebu.

    3. Book into hotel. Shower, shave, etc.

    4. Visit a girlie bar (any girlie bar, but make sure it is not a ladyboy bar unless that is what you are looking for...)

    5. Two out of three of the girls inside will want to marry you (the other one third would also marry you if they could, but they are already married, unhappily, and cannot get divorced, as there is no divorce in the Philippines).

    6. Select one.

This is probably just as cheap as Internet dating or looking for a girl who is already in the UK, probably at least as reliable, and quicker. More fun, too.

(I had a friend who, retiring from the sea in Hong Kong and planning to sail a yacht that he was having built in Taiwan back to the States, decided to find a crew and marry her, allowing himself three weeks in the Philippines to find himself a wife and get married, using the above method. It was completely successful.)

Given the objective is to get married, it would be necessary to convert to Islam first. Anyone considering this should consider the case of one of Kay's acquaintances* who, wanting to join his wife in England, but without the hassle of getting an annulment from the lady to whom he was already bigamously married, informed the British Consulate that he had converted to Islam. Alas he had failed to keep in mind that Britain has many Moslems in its population, and he was not expecting to be interviewed on the Moslem faith by an expert - who saw right through him and awarded him a ten year ban...

    * She is careful not to call him a friend.

Well, no, you have to decide carefully. My Master Mariner friend road tested half a dozen before making a final decision.

Dave was quite a character; one of his other claims to fame was having rescued over ten thousand Vietnamese "boat people".

He was not overly fond of Thais, because very often the boats that his AHTS came across in the Gulf of Thailand had been "gone over" by Thai fishermen who, knowing that the refugees would take their savings with them as gold, would threaten to rape the women unless the gold hidden in the boat was produced. Then they raped the women anyway. As he said, you wouldn't find a Filipino doing that.
