One of my jobs here at my new university is to take charge of the IELTS and TOEIC testing for students. I haven't seen the 'easier' one yet though.

    Hello Sateev.

I know it can be confusing but we are under 'Family of a Settled Person' visa. It can also be known as Settlement visa under Marriage. :)

    Hi Anne,

Thanks for your reply, that clears things up, I also could not find any information on the "Fiancé" Visa on the UK.gov website either!

I feel you. We were on the same shoes last year. It would also be worth pointing out of the types of visa Settlement- Marriage, Settlement- Spouse and Marriage Visitor visa are 3 different entities. ;)

    Hi Anne,

I looked at the "Marriage" Visa but then it says after 6 months my new wife would have to return home!!! So it is confusing, Everyone refers to "Fiancé" visa but I cannot find any reference to it! Its like a secret visa!!

Also a girl in the UK Border Control office told me that I could bring my girlfriend over for two and a half years on a spouse visa, then extend by another 2 and a half years then she could apply to stay permanently without us getting married. She asked how long I had known my GF and I told her 7 years so she said yes that will be okay as long as you have known her for 2 that will be fine!! What she didn't tell me was that you have to have been actually living with that person for 2 years sharing the same house with bills, photos etc to prove it. It really does not help when you cannot get the right answers.

So do you actually know what the UK Border Control are actually referring to as a "Fiancé" Visa?

    Thanks again for your reply,

    Sateev.

I think she was referring to Settlement as Unmarried partner. It is true that taking this route has a requirement of living together for at least 2 years.

For Fiancé/Fiancée/Settlement for Marriage visa, on the other hand, true that the UKVI has to include the 6 month window-- to marry your fiancée in the UK (that is if you want to settle here in the UK). After you get married, you can then apply for spouse visa or so called as extension/ Further Leave to Remain (FLR) in the nearest Home Office or by post.

One has to be careful in choosing which visa type to click in the application. If you want to marry and settle with your partner here in the UK, then the visa type is Settlement with drop down option of Marriage. Take note that the applicant is not you but your fiancée.

    I hope this helps.

I have a feeling that the 'old' courses are only valid until November 2015. The 'new' courses that came in after about April this year is called IELTS life skills course A1 I think and I don't think that was offered last October.
    see the transitional list here:
    https://www.gov.uk/government/publi...g-for-uk-visa-approved-english-language-tests

    Which states:
These tests can be used in a UK immigration application until 5th November 2015 only when they have been taken on or before 5th April 2015.

If your test appears on the transitional list it's only valid until November as the guideline states. It doesn't matter whether it has an expiry on it or not. The new tests that came into force this year must be used for applications after that date.

    Hello anna.

    I agree with ChoiAndJohn.

One thing I noticed, you said you took the test in Wales. Are you already here in the UK and about to apply a spouse visa this February?

Sorry to hear about the failed visa but I can tell you are still lucky being granted a visit visa. Anyway, the rules ChoiAndJohn shared to us about the approved English test still apply in your case. I am afraid you have to take an approved test when you wished to apply next year. It would be entirely up to you if you opt to take it here in the UK or back at home.
