I'm off to Subic in a couple of days. And it's for work, just so you know... Hahahahaha...

But sure, before I leave for the UK. Would be good to chat up with those from my father's country.

In the Philippines, it's perfectly legal to have a gun as long you have a license.

    Just so you know... Hahahahhahahah...

For a Filipino, yes. For a foreigner, no and that's a fast pass to prison or deportation.

    Oh, didn't know that.

Then have your wife get a gun then instead.

Or your adult son if you have one. Hahahahahahah...

Or just get a mallet, chainsaw or baseball bat at home. Intimidation! =p

Yes that's a lovely picture, premenstrual wife throwing a Tampo, and a gun in the house that you personally will go to jail if you are ever caught with your fingerprints on it :D

Why does that leave me feeling anything but safe :D

My ex wife had been an active supporter of the NPA (she comes from Bataan) as a teenager. At an early stage in that relationship I expressed doubt about her ability with firearms - she proceeded to demonstrate how to use and how to strip and clean an M16 assault rifle.
The NPA used M16s not AK47s because they, and ammunition for them, were easier to obtain - Uncle Sam supplied them to the Philippines Armed Forces - who sold them to the NPA.

Hmmm that's the fluid nature of this forum. We start talking about about sexy filipinas and it ends with M16 assault rifles

Many years ago I visited the Philippines for the first time.
I flew into Manila and went to the bus station to be able to travel to Olongapo.
I bought a Filipino newspaper which was in English.
I sat down to have a quiet read and as I turned over page by page looking at so many pictures of murders, bloody car crashes, I couldn't help but look over my shoulder many times for a few days!
That was a bad first move :eek::eek::(:erm:

I know it's grim and can be inappropriate, but we actually make jokes about it.

'Last night, a 70 year old man from Olongapo who had sex with his 20-year old girlfriend died smiling... and standing.'

'A milk tea vendor who became angry at his customers who said that his merchandise taste and smells foul died, after trying out his own milk tea.'

I don't know if Brits would get the humour, but it's part of Pinoy culture. You know, smiling and just laughing at the horrendous things in the world.

Watch Youtube clips of people in Tacloban after the Typhoon Haiyan/Yolanda struck. You'll see people smiling, drinking beer, playing basketball in the ruins of their town. Going about their lives...

Every time I travel overseas, I read the International/local newspapers. I actually find it funny comparing ours and those papers' headlines.

'Crown Prince William finally getting married to his long-time fiancee!'

'Oscar winners get a group selfie using Samsung Galaxy!'

    'Khloe Kardashian finally gets married!'

Sometimes when my wife does something wrong and I can see it and ask her about it, she just smiles with a big grin.

I don't think I will ever understand Filipinos

It has something to do with our colonial mentality.

After being under three World Powers, and not being able to do any thing against them, we sort of have resigned to our faith and just laugh it off.

Laugh at the calamities and bad-luck. Laugh at deaths. Laugh at violence. You get the drift.

It's a defense mechanism, and something that we inherited from our forefathers.

So when you see your wife alone, smiling or laughing silently, it can mean that something is bothering her.

Laughing wasn't a defence mechanism when Magellan landed on your shores, he was chopped into pieces :)

That was before the Spanish really landed and conquered the Philippines. Back when we were still a proud race.

When Magellan died, news reached Spain, then they prepared another voyage. With more soldiers, and with lots of priests. Then they used 'Divide and Conquer.' It's a very long story, and it will take up the whole thread. Hahahahhaa...

But anyway after 200 years of Spanish rule, 50 years of American, 5 years of Japanese, we sort of have lost all that warrior mentality.

Very true. The comment was tongue-in-cheek but yes PI isn't an aggressive war fighting nation like the UK, which isn't a bad thing in my eyes.
