When my wife first moved over here we used Calling Now to load up her Globe Sim. They emailed me this morning with this flyer about Jollibee: https://www.callingnow.co.uk/search.aspx?search=jollibee Order it here in the UK, to be sent to your friends or family in the Philippines the following day. I found Calling Now to be reliable whenever I phoned them about my wifes sim card.
This would need good thought and proper coordination. 2,000 peso worth of chicken (£30) is a lot of dosh in the Philippines. Imagine you were leaving your (UK) house at 07:30 in the morning to go to work. And a taxi pulls up outside your (UK) house with £150 (say) worth of Pizza hut delivery, sent as a surprise present from your wifes family in Singapore. Nuff said..
You are right. It's expensive for the Philippines. But my thoughts are that it is an alternative to straight cash every time. Alternatively the recipient can choose to eat in the branch of Jollibee. I am willing to give it a go sometime soon.
I can see the funny side of it etc etc but Calling Now seem pretty reliable so hopefully it will work. For £25 quid it is worth a go. I know my wife's family like Jollibee so it is worth a shot. I will go for a smaller order first. "A meal code will be sent by text. Jollibee will call to validate meal code & arrange delivery time & address. IMPORTANT: in areas where Jollibee do not offer a delivery service, dine in or collection will be offered instead"
Well, we decided against the above option and went for online flower delivery for the mother inlaws birthday. Flowers, cake and chocolate. It wasn't cheap. Probably more like UK prices. But it was a refreshing alternative to straight cash. PinayGifts http://www.pinaygifts.com/Scripts/default.asp
I did try to do it for Xmas, but they beat me back by not guaranteeing if and when the local Store would be able to redeem the voucher. A yes or no, would have done, but not a "definite maybe" So we sent some extra dosh, and a lechon was enjoyed by all and sundry...
Would rather send the money instead... £30 could send quite a few friends and relatives for a slap up meal in Jollibee or Greenwhich if I stipulated that was what I wanted it for.
I always think that giving a woman a bunch of flowers etc is more of a personal gift. But maybe I don't have a Pinoy way of thinking. However, we may try the lechon thing at christmas........
I've been using Island Rose for the last 8 years, better value for flowers than Pinay Gifts and have always been utterly reliable, the gift shop is much more restricted though and recently they have not had such a great range in the gift shop, usually just chocolates, which is something that while Ana appreciates them, she'd rather have a home fragrance set or the likes.
Used http://www.islandrose.net/ many times in the past, and found them very reliable, on the occasion of something going pear shaped, once, they replaced the flowers at no cost. I can recommend them.
Thanks, I took your advice and acted on it - Island Rose did exactly what they said they were going to do. Two dozen roses (the second dozen were a special deal for US$5 extra) arrived on Monday, delivered to the right address, and I am told that they were still looking OK today. However, I have now created a rod for my own back - I've been challenged to send some blue roses!
That shouldn't be too difficult.............. As kids in school. we used to add blue ink to the water in the vase containing white roses , and within a couple of days, a bluish tint was obtained......
Thanks for the reminder - wonder if Island Rose can lay hands on some Parker's Royal Blue Washable Ink! This is another Conjugal Initiative Test - the last one was the pair of "size seven" shoes which, with help from my friends here, I was able to crack (the Philippines uses American sizes - a 7 is a 4 1/2)
A Google for "Blue roses - Philippines" produced a link to an outfit on sulit.com that was awash with customer complaints, so I've emailed Island Rose asking if they can do a "special" I've already told Kay that the d...ed things are a genetic impossibility! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_rose
