    Hello,

I'm reading old threads that I think are outdated and Google is unclear.

My Filipina wife and I just got married in the UK.

I am wondering do we need to register our marriage with the Philippines government in some way (via the Philippines embassy maybe). She has changed her last name to mine so will need to update her passport via the embassy I believe.

Also we are coming up to 2 years through the partner resident visa I assume the last name change shouldn't cause any issues obviously we will include our marriage certificate in the next application. Maybe we can update her residence name card now.

    Thanks all

weve been married over 6 years now..she kept her old name as on her fili passport. She never notified the fili embassy.
She renewed her fili passport in 201(8?)--she told the staff she was now remarried--they asked if she wanted to use her new surname==she declined--so her new passport is in her former name. She now has british citizenship--still in her old name. So long as your wife uses the same surname on all docs and paperwork thats the main thing.

Most don't - If it doesn't work out for the Filipina they can return to Phils and remarry.

Judging by some of the stories I've heard here (in Leyte), there is no central database of CENOMAR records in the Philippines so it's probably by Island... meaning it's open to abuse and is abused.

i.e. A Man or Woman can go to another Island, get a CENOMAR and remarry another Filipino or Foreigner without the new partner being aware he/she is marrying someone who is already married :D

And as bigmac said ... it's really up to your wife whether she wants to take your name or not ... I suppose mine wanted to take mine because we had children - lot's of people used to think she was the yaya!

If going to update the name on passport then need to organize two appointments at the philipines embassey, one with the registry to register the marriage and the other to get new passport. The registry appointment is first and will need a few hours between appointments to let them do the paperwork. Also when doing the registry appointment tell them you have appointment for new passport so they can do the paperwork quickly. Otherwise will be coming back a second day for the passport.

@Daveyw1988 wife did it fairly recently. I thought they had some problems but nothing in the above thread. If I'm correct he may be able to give some more advise.

Need new passport before can get new residence card as they have to match. Took ages to get a new BRP after wife changed name although she is on EU settlement scheme. Also need to factor in time for new passport to be sent out which is about three months from visit to embassey.

There is also a charge for a new BRP unless within three months of new visa application in which case think can be wrapped up in that.

If nearing the 2.5 year visa application point I would leave it until after it completes and then do it as easier and have more time to do it even though take hit on the BRP charge.

Also should try and avoid travel when passport and BRP are potentially in different names as can imagine big problems.
