Just a few days from booking my flights to Pinas and am now umming and ahhing over these two flight companies. Which is best for leg room, comfort, seating space etc... ??
I really do not like the new seats on Cathay. Also, the last few times I have flown CP I would say that the quality of service has deteriorated somewhat. Al.:england:
Never flown Cathay Sean, can only reiterate my general happiness with KLM, It's either a 777-200 or a 777-300 with KLM The 777-200 seat map http://www.seatguru.com/airlines/KLM/KLM_Boeing_777-200.php?Orig=AMS&Dest=MNL&Date= The 777-300 seat map http://www.seatguru.com/airlines/KLM/KLM_Boeing_777-300ER.php Depending on the exact class of fare they move you progressively towards the rear of the plane, in other words the cheapest seats are at the back of the bus, the green seats in row 31 on the 777-200 are really good but it can get cold if you are near a bulkhead, the supplied blanket does help a lot though.
Looking like KLM... Though if I stayed for an extra day I save £40? Though I doubt the extra fee to extend the visa would be less than this
I always thought Cathay was better but...................... as Al says the new seats are not good. well for me anyway. Just sliding seat parts the backrest does not move at all. I can just about manage them with some walking around, and one benefit is of course the person in front cannot recline into your space especially when your eating. Another plus point (for me) is that the schedules and transfer times suit me so well. I do agree that the CP service has gone down a bit. We all have differing views on different flight issues anyway.
I meant to also say that the green seats on Seat Guru with no seats in front all cost extra if you select them when you are doing online checkin so on the 777-200 that's rows 10 part of 11 and 31, the seats in row 40 don't cost extra but I've not personally tried that row. Been right down the back on that flight once though and it was not that bad. You are right about the visa fee it would be around 3000 peso or 40 quid and a lot of hassle.
I have to fly Wizz air quite often and they have two types of seating, the older planes are leather seats with reclining backs and decent legroom, their newer planes have fixed seats vinyl covered and less legroom, the small difference in seating is very noticeable and quite unpleasant.
The only reason I like Cathay is that I can stopover in HK, best Airline I have used going to the Philippines is Singapore!!
The best seats for me on the KLM 777-200 in economy are right at the back Row 44 - theres only 2 seats where the fuselage narrows, and theres a bit of space by the window for bags, ideal for a couple. The legroom is poor, but then I'm only 5 ft 4 so its not a problem for me. I think I read somewhere the -200 are being phased out in favour of the -300 I've used Cathay a few times and was pleased with the legroom and service, but that was a while ago.
Yup Singapore is well cool............. Even if a tad more expensive than the others... Actually ... More than a tad.............
I used Singapore on my first trip to the Philippines but unfortunately they have been too expensive since!! Great Airport there also!!
I always fly KLM, when I booked our flights for september I paid the extra for economy comfort which I think was 90 extra. Well worth it for me as I'm 6 foot 4.
