    Well it happened:erm:

Somebody burns a book and people get killed:eek: Below is the video of the mock trial that Pastor Jones gave to the Koran before one of his lackies burnt it..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XDmaFehshys(watch it on YouTube if not offended)

And of course like predicted by pretty much everyone it kicks off in Afghanistan, causing the death of at least 7 UN staff members and a number of "protesters":erm::erm:

I can understand being p***ed off about it, but resorting to that kind of violence is well over the top.

I don't really want to go into a long diatribe but suffice to say that the same book, or what is in it, keeps those people in a
    backward state of mentality.

I don't know who is worse, the idiots who burned the koran or the idiots who went on the rampage.
It would be easy for me to say that the people who killed others because of the burning were much worse, but from my years in and out of Muslim countries, I realised that Muslims are on a different wavelength to non-Muslims.

It is a little like the Christians in Europe who held the inquisition.

The people who burnt the koran knew what effect it would have from recent history.

All killing is reprehensible past and present.
It is just another reminder to me of the evils that religion causes.
    It is never ending, sadly.

I musy admit that for a Toffee supporter you keep raising some valid points.

It doesn't change the fact that, unfortunately, for all good will in the world and beyond, the koran was written with the express purpose of subjugation.

It is fine with me, if one wants to follow that, but in this day and age, as science progresses we find ourselves at loggerheads with such antiquated beliefs.
Something will have to give..... And recession into the dark ages is very hard to contemplate from where I sit...

If we accept that upsetting one religious group meets riots and deaths, then progress in human thought becomes stagnated by giving up on ourselves. What these groups are doing is the same as was done in years gone by from Christians and Jews, but only through challenging the status quo and accepting nothing short of respect to human life and human dignity, and the free speech of each and every person, do we move forward to a more prosperous future.

These people show tremendous lack of respect for others, burning western flags and various effigies. Then when one of their relics is burnt, they feel that they deserve special dispensation.

They have the right to burn the US, UK or whatever flag they choose and Pastor Jones has the right to burn a book. These rights should be protected above all!!

This topic raises an interesting point.

For example, we know that if a person hires a hitman to kill someone, both parties are culpable; the one who hires and the one who does the dirty deed.

People in the UK can be prosecuted for inciting racial hatred.

In the land of many churches (USA), I doubt if the burners of the koran will be taken to task by the majority.
They may feel the backlash of a fundamental extremist though which, if it happens, would be equally deplorable ....... :(

Which is a shame, as a religous group are not a race of people!

In the US, the right to free speech and freedom for and from religion is written both in the constitution and in many different laws and rulings, so when Louis Farrakhan labels Jews as devils he is free to do so, therefore other religious nuts can burn a Koran without fear from the law!

I have no axe to grind one way or the other.

I only suggest it's not religion, anti-religion, gods, views or whatever that causes the grief. It's etremism.
BTW personally I see plenty of extremist around all the time.

I don't buy the word extremist when it comes to Islam. Though, I guess it makes a perfectly good caveat for the sake of making a distinction between Muslims who kill and Muslims who don't.

There are many Muslims who consider themselves extremely devout to their faith, but they would never rise up to attack complete strangers because of some insult. So, I guess it is more about interpretation of their religion that makes them what they are...

And just quickly getting back to my earlier point, about how all of the blame should not be laid upon the Muslims. If a man rapes a woman, do we still blame the woman for wearing provocative clothing? Appearing too attractive? Of course we don't:erm: We put the blame purely on the person who commits the violence, likewise we should never - for a second give any room for maneuver when it comes to where the blame for this rioting and killing lies.:erm:

Normally I'm against burning of books as a rule, but I can certainly understand the benefits of ridding the world of all those ridiculous bibles, torahs and korans.
