Vince Cable is the last remaining candidate left in the race for leader of the Liberal Democrats. His election must, therefore, be a foregone conclusion and his appointment will be the result of him being the last man standing and not that he's the best man for the job - he isn't by a country mile. But with his appointment - or rather his coronation - both principal parties of the left will be led by geriatric dreamers and the left generally is moving towards offering dictatorial rather than representative rulerships.

This follows the disgraceful (in my view) way that certain members of that party forced Tim Farron to resign as leader. It was a display of liberal fascism, of political correctness pushed to the limit, a case of "my [LGBT] Rights are greater than your [devout Christian] Rights". Farron wasn't exactly an inspiring leader but partly through no fault of his own: his predecessor, Clegg took every opportunity to thrust himself before reporters and TV cameras right from the moment that he stood down following his disastrous achievements in the 2015 General Election. Clegg never gave Farron the chance or the space to develop policy or promote his agenda. Some will view Clegg's defenestration from parliament as poetic justice.

I did seriously consider supporting the Lib Dems during Charles Kennedy's leadership but following Clegg's takeover, the party has descended into being the intolerant, bigoted, fascist organisation it is today.

I thought the late John Smith was going to be good for labour.
