Here I am. My full name is Peter Bruce Snushall; and I am at the time of life to start settling down. 44 to be exact. I am a UK Citizen and have a girlfriend; Sheryl. Be it only on cam2cam We have been conversing since June last year and I want to sponsor to live in the UK. and take a step further. On top of it I am a man of small means and therefore need to consider it intensely my finances. All ideas, experiences on this are a bonus. Thanks for listening.

Welcome Bruce Almighty, I mean Peter. :like:

If you haven't met her yet, you must consider on meeting her before you get her a settlement visa. It is necessary to prove that the relationship is genuine. It will also help you know that if the spark you both have online will be real in person. Then after that you decide for yourself. It will be easier if you come over as you won't need a visa coming here in the Philippines. :)

I wish you the best of luck in your journey. ;)

Um. interesting idea. i'm not a great traveler as I have been. This is also where the man of small means comes in;). She is in the United Emirates now until June. is it a ridiculous idea to just throw caution to the wind and see how it goes when she gets here. Also is a settlement visa the same as a sponsor; just to clear that up.... Yes and she does brighten my day each time We talk..

There are two ways to bring her to the UK (a) marriage settlement visa (fiancé visa) and (b) spouse visa.

The former would mean you apply for her to go to the UK and marry her there within 6 months. After your marriage she will then need to apply for Further Leave to Remain from within the UK which will then be valid for 2.5 years.

Now the latter would mean you will get married outside the UK (Philippines perhaps) and once the marriage has taken place she will then be eligible to apply for a spouse visa.

That's just an overview. Both have their advantages and disadvantages. You can ask specifically if you need to clarify something. And both will require you to be her sponsor. One important thing to know is the financial requirement which is £18,600 p.a and there's many ways to meet it. :)

Both require a hefty fee I'm afraid.

You can't apply for a settlement visa until you have actually met in person. Her getting a tourist visa is your best option, but these are difficult to obtain. Also, she would need to leave before the visa expires. You can't transfer from a tourist visa to a settlement visa.

Then again, why not travel to meet her as either way there is travel payment involved and it is certainly a easier option for you to travel for a meeting rather than her.

For settlement you need to be earning a minimum of £18,600 per year as sponsor.

    Welcome to the forum :)

If I was you I'd hold my horses and wait until you've met before you start thinking of a settlement visa, "proceed with haste repent at leisure."

You can get a flight to Dubai or Abu Dhabi (latter is cheaper) for less than £500 if you scout around the internet.

Good luck with your quest :)

Meet up with her as uae is closer and see how it goes. You can get into the country without any need of visa etc. as @Timmers mentioned, its not a lot of cost (flight and hotel deals are around £500)

Else, if she has good work in the uae, she can visit you in the uk (as a tourist visa). She can stay with you etc so in essence pay for the flight. Book a 'dummy' hotel as part of tourist visa application (those with free cancellation once visa is granted).

This way you can see if the chemistry is there.

It will be very difficult to give up a life in uae for 'an unknown' situation. Plus as they mentioned, its very expensive for either spouse or fiance visa for that kind of gamble.

    Welcome to the forum Peter.

Good luck to you and your lady.

At the moment, though you say you're 44 , with all due respect, you're coming across as a lovestruck teenager who is being very naive about this relationship and your (possible) future together with this young lady.

There will be lots of hurdles put in your way, a great deal of expense, and last but not least, out of pure respect for this lady, the need to learn something about her culture and her family back in the Philippines... ideally by visiting them there.

Stick around , ask more questions, and see if you feel you've got the staying power.

Just bringing her here for a few weeks on visitor visa (if she's lucky enough to be granted one) will prove to be a very expensive date, if you are on a tight budget anyway.

    hello--and welcome to the site.

the bad news is---unless you earn at least £18,600 a year---or have savings of £62,000....or a combination of either / both---then youre on a hiding to nothing.

the only good news is--you havent met so --really--its all an imaginary relationship.

    cut and run.

Well you certainly cannot grumble at that price :like:

There are deals to be had for sure especially if you have the luxury of being flexible with your travel dates.
