Letter from boss

    I am at the stage where my boss needs to write a letter for me for my wife's visa application.


    He has asked me what to write on the letter?

    Any help please...

    I don't know if there is a place that has a sample letter I can copy and get my boss to fill in with my details..

    I really need to get it done in the next few weeks, any help please.

    The letter from the boss needs to contain the following;

    1. Needs to be on company headed paper and dated
    2. Length of service with the company
    3. Whether position is permanent or part time
    4. Your salary and how long you have been paid this amount for
    5. Your position with the company.

    So for example your letter from the boss could read like this to include all of the above.

    To Whom it may concern,

    Joe Bloggs has worked for British Filipino as a Administration Assistant since August 2010 and is employed by us on a permanent basis.

    His salary is £30,000 per year and he has been paid this amount since taking up employment with British Filipino in August 2010.

    If you have any questions relating to Joe's employment with British Filipino please do not hesitate to contact us.

    Note that you also need your employment contract from your boss and at least six months wage slips that are preferably signed by him.

    What I did was write it myself and got my boss to sign it. He didnt even need to read it. :D

    If your boss is always super busy thats a great way of getting around it.

    I used him to sign my daughters photos for her passport and stuff like that. 'Ere. Sign this for me Gov! He's always obliging as long as he doesnt have to spend much time on it.

    I have worked for the same company for over ten years. My employment contract got lost long ago.

    I would certainly submit it if you have it, I didn't because I couldn't find any of mine at the time. Since found about ten years worth but that's par for the course.

    I dont have an employment contract. Just an oversight on their part. There is one but I dont have a copy. Its a very thick document btw. Anyhow, I didnt submit my employment contract as part of our application. It wasnt something that was recommended.

    Anything that proves ones employment will help. Though it would not help as proof for the last 6 months earnings up to and including October, for example, it would help as historical proof of employment.

    A letter from your employer, mine was from one of the managing directors, who is also my boss, on headed paper, as outlined by Timmers, along with evidence of income, should do the trick.

    If the headed letter has the office address and telephone number on it then the ECO has the scope to give ones employer / boss a call if they felt the need.

    There is more than one way to skin a cat and proof of finances can take a range of forms whereaby not necessarily all forms of proof are required to render the application evidence conclusive, if you see what I mean.

    Here's what the Immigration Rules say on employer's letters:

    Immigration Rules Appendix FM-SE Family members - specified evidence
    (This is a consolidated version of the current Immigration Rules)

    2. In respect of salaried employment in the UK (except where paragraph 9 applies), all of the following evidence must be provided:

    (a) Payslips covering:

    (i) a period of 6 months prior to the date of application if the person has been
    employed by their current employer for at least 6 months (and where paragraph
    13(b) of this Appendix does not apply); or

    (ii) any period of salaried employment in the period of 12 months prior to the date
    of application if the person has been employed by their current employer for less
    than 6 months (or at least 6 months but the person does not rely on paragraph
    13(a) of this Appendix), or in the financial year(s) relied upon by a self-employed
    person.

    (b) A letter from the employer(s) who issued the payslips at paragraph 2(a) confirming:

    (i) the person's employment and gross annual salary;

    (ii) the length of their employment;

    (iii) the period over which they have been or were paid the level of salary relied upon in the application; and

    (iv) the type of employment (permanent, fixed-term contract or agency)
