Hi Christopher--and welcome to the site. you will find it very helpful and friendly here.

as regards posting your important documents--DHL is the only way to go. get a ready made DHL envelope--big enough for A4---and 500 grams of weight. it will cost aroung £40 to post--but should be there in a few days. any other method is just not worth the risk. ( bigger DHL boxes are available.) try Staples or WH Smiths.

as regards being self-employed---its vital you do this right--but i'm not up on it so will leave others to take over from here.

You need to show a lot if self employed, and going back to the start of the last financial year, so you need business bank account statements back to April 2014.

Also you need to send your SA302, self employment registration, statement of NI contributions, statement of tax payments from HMRC and your tax return. Also worth sending in your accounts and a letter from an accountant spelling out your earnings clearly.

Yeah. DhL. Don't use the post office or it could take weeks to arrive.

Regarding the joint letter. Its an opportunity to tell your joint storyline in such a way that it supports your claim of a sustained relationship (and not a scammed one).

If it has a human touch to it then so much the better.
