Well, this opens up cans of worms. I was speaking to someone in our local Chinese takeway (she wasn't chinese though she was foreign to these shores). She was saying that there had been a lot of cheating going on with people going into the test room not knowing the material but passing by copying from others. Heresay only, I guess.

However, by contrast, what I actually noticed yesterday was that the desks were sufficiently far enough apart to prevent overt copying from an adjacent neighbour and as I said there were 5 invigilators watching 23 people. (I could see my wife through the glass in the exam room doors).

The tests here are done by hand as I am told that so few take it that the costs of the computerised version aren't economically viable. And as far as I can tell, all papers were the same. I know this as I spoke to quite a few candidates after they left the room and evidently they all had the same questions and were able to confer and compare answers afterwards.

They were pretty strict with the candidates, no phones or other technology. No papers. My wife wasn't allowed to take in her pencil case. And all were vetted for ID to the extent that they looked to see if their photos matched the individual. My wife said the Chinese guy had to be told to put his mobile phone in his bag away from the desk area.

It was also interesting seeing the ethic mix of candidates. 3 or 4 Filipinos, a Thai girl, about 3 or 4 asians, a chinaman, 4 Rumanians and some miscellaneous caucasians, that I recall.

I also noticed that some people were out after only about 15 minutes even though it is a 45 minute test.

What a relief. The wife got a letter today saying she has passed the Life in the UK and Islands test. They must have marked it yesterday. :vhappy:

Glad she passed in view of the up and coming changes.

Thanks. Not a particularly easy test. My wife's friend who is a bit older, struggles to pass and failed for the third time.
