The Bureau of Immigration Identification Certificate is an A4 document with photograph and thumb prints and the usual load of official stamps Stu :) It should be presented at immigration when your wife is travelling on her foreign passport whereupon you will probably get a Balikbayan privilage stamp in your passport instead of the 21 day visa stamp, however you have to remember to ask for it as they don't always remember to do it.

So if the first time i enter with the wife i'll get my 1yr balikbayan visa in my passport. What happens then if I leave the phils for work and come back in 6 weeks later? Will they look at my previous stamp and wave me through because its still in date?

Sadly no, I hoped that might work when they accidentally gave me a BB stamp in April 2010 when I returned from the UK with Ana (still not married at the time) I went back in June for a friends wedding and tried to convince immigration to do exactly what you suggest but nae luck.

You might be better going for the 13A visa although I am not sure how they treat periods of non residency during the probationary period :erm:

Is the 13A visa the multi entry visa or is that the residence visa for expats?

Congratulations to Rochelyn, from Elsa and I.

Elsa passed hers on the 2nd attempt, and to be honest, some of the questions asked in the test I couldn't answer myself!

I'm a bit confused now. From previous trips to the Phils, Elsa and I present our passports (using her Phils passport) at the desk, and they have always stamped my (British) passport with the 1 year BB, whereas she gets the normal entry stamp for Phils citizens.

Elsa and I are hoping to take a holiday in the Philippines this year, her Phils passport has expired now, but she has a UK passport, anyway she intends regaining her Phils citizenship & passport when we are there.

It's the non quota immigrant visa and applies to spouses.

The multi entry visa would be better if you were only going to be there for 50 odd days at a time.

Don't get confused. It's one of the difficulties when different topics merge in a thread.
Balikbayan privileges are only available for Philippine citizens. means that the 1 year BB stamp for foreign spouse is a privilege only available via the Philippine Spouse when passing through immigration together.

Yes it's your wife that has the privilege to get her partner, you, into the country for a year.

It is also a privilege granted to ex Philippine citizens on return to the homeland, so if you are by birth a Filipino and have lost your citizenship and are travelling on foreign documents you can claim BB status on return, you probably need your birth certificate or the likes, or look the part and be able to speak very fluent Tagalog at the immigration desk ;)

:erm: interesting! so I don't necessarily have to get a Philippines passport if I have this certificate in hand!
