The British Government has just announced that ALL Philippines are now allowed to operate in European airspace. That opens up the prospect of cheaper flights as carriers vie for market share, but they will have to compete with Air China that has return flights from Heathrow to Manila for as low as £323 at the moment.

Thanks for that out Howerd, unless they have been expecting it I wonder which Philippine carriers will have the relevant kit for the journey, they will need 777 ER's at least.

There's really only Cebu Pacific as a possible candidate for that kind of journey.

    I would have thought PI.

    Regional UK.

Going to London is a pain in the backside for us Northerners....time-consuming and expensive.

    Confusion.

KLM is best for the regional UK airports.

Maybe many years ago, (when I've used them) but they are expensive now...and no 'direct' to Manila flights ?

Manchester is difficult to beat for its excellent rail and road links to the whole of the North.

Makes no difference for us as we don't go Manila. MAN to CEB with Cathay is usually cheapest of the better airlines

The Taiwan leg has added cost to their route and it is expensive now although it is often still the best option depending on your criteria.

Manchester can still be hard to get to, my only quick option is taxi and that costs 40 quid each way :(

The Philippines played a long game, force all the foreign airline out (CCT common carrier tax) and then hope their home grown carriers can exploit the hole, in the meantime abolishing the CCT.

Yep PAL are still trying to dissuade the govt from letting the middle eastern airlines have additional flights in and out of the country. Been going on for quite a while now
I guess they're hoping that Emirates will give up the fight.

I should have said 'forcing all European airlines' out.

I think in time Cebu pacific will pick up flights to compete with PAL

PAL has replaced the 777 with an A340 on its Manila-London service and the airline appears to have shelved plans to expand its to other European destinations. Last time I checked, only Singapore Airlines was more expensive on the Manila-London route. Cebu Pacific will almost certainly fly the route using its existing A330s via the Gulf.

Unfortunately I have little choice. Either a flight to London or a flight to Manchester (car and ferry is a bit cheaper, to Manchester). Basically a "surcharge". Also this can often lead to an extra days travel on the outward leg as insurance against delay. One of the sacrifices for living in a remote locality.

Etihad offer flights from IOM to MNL with connections in (MAN or DUB) and AUH.
Total flight time just over 22 hours with the two connections.

I wonder if that would be a package. I would imagine the price will be the Manchester Manila flight with the IOM Manchester leg the normal extra?

I flew Etihad last time but only from Manchester onwards. Nice flight.
