Looking for Filipino/Kababayan in UK...for real estate talks

It would appear that this rather strange, confused statement is an oblique reference to my post.

Just to set the record straight, I have no view on whether someone invests in property in the Philippines. Indeed, its not a bad idea. I've considered it myself.

I was merely questioning whether going through a middleman is the most financially efficient way to go about it. And out of general principle I object to people posting on forums such as this to advertise and tout for custom.

Really?? For me its a rather nice chance to have a young Filipino real estate agent show me what the market is doing lately and what kind of discounts and deals she might be able to give me and others here...It also may be an interesting learning curve for members leaning towards buying a Condo lease either to live in one day or to rent out to help pay the repayments..The positives and negatives can then be discussed openly so that members can make a more informed decision and who knows...Anne might make a sale!

It would also give some a welcome break to all these Political nonsense threads!!

Perhaps. I would expect that the open, transparent debate that you would like is not likely to happen because this sort of sales pitch is intended mainly to lure in the gullible.

As you know, there are all sorts of reasons why one never gets a particularly good deal from a property developer. You pay premium for the convenience and the fact that you don't have to buy a piece of land and develop it yourself.

I personally wouldn't choose an investment based on a post on an internet forum any more than I would buy a house from someone I met in the Mall .

I would also be wary of accepting investment advice and soundings of the market from someone who was trying to sell me something..

Well quite. This is what around Php 2 million will buy you from Avida Land:

a one room apartment of around 24 square metres and that price does not include finishings, fixtures, fittings or furniture for which you would need to allow at least 100 thousand. And that particular development is not even in Manila but several hundred miles south.

Condominiums are not a good investment.

Well you have probably scared her away now so I`ll probably never know now exactly what it was she was selling..
When I`m in a large mall (such as MOA) I accept all the promotional stuff in there and then browse through it all at leisure on the outside balcony bar area whilst sipping from a couple of cold ones.. I would have liked to have done the same here on this thread but I dont think that will happen now... In future,if you have no interest in a thread of messages, why not just ignore it and allow those of us that are interested to indulge?
Oh and BTW...If I need your advice about the purchase of real estate in the Philippines in the future, I`ll ask you first and then bow to your superior knowledge.

I personally don't feel this is an appropriate place to advertise commercially and indeed I believe that this is prohibited by forum rules and I stand by that viewpoint.

It is regrettable that you feel my actions have 'scared her away'. I don't feel that my posts were particularly offensive. Thank you for your suggestion as to what I should post and when I should post it. I shall of course follow it to the letter... just as soon as I get my head replaced by a cauliflower. :)

As for the question of real estate, I was under the impression that you owned a property in the Philippines so you might have an appreciation of the point I was making. It is kind of you to offer to consult me, and although I have both invested in property and worked in finance for three decades and as such could most likely assist, frankly, I'm too busy and I do not believe that it would be productive to have you as a client.

I suggest you contact the salesperson above though. You have the website and you have her email address. I am confident that you will receive impartial, unbiased advice and make a good decision.

How much is one with a window?

Why on earth would you want a window? This condo is being built on a busy main road just off Roxas Avenue and would only appeal to those who are partial to the frangrance of passing Jeepney - oh and the delightful "eau de sweaty armpit" from about midday onwards. But if you insist, they are available but seem to be unglazed and about the right size for an aircon unit.

Good god, what is the matter with you smug, RUDE people ? Let members make up their own minds, why don't you ?
No wonder few Filipinas (to whom the OP was actually addressed !) bother to participate in the threads when their countrymen/women are chased away like this.
Would you like YOUR partner to be treated in this manner ?

Oh, and ChoiAndJohn , you've been on ignore for quite some time now, so don't bother wasting your time typing anything aimed at me. It also means I haven't read any of your comments, so don't be feeling too important.

This site is free, it makes no money, we removed the adverts after Sean passed away, it costs a few of us a small amount each year and a fair bit of work.

Advertising is not what the site is about, and anyway it is just basic netiquette not to post adverts directly onto a board in your first post.

And that is apart from the fact that there are risks involved in hosting a site, what happens when we allow an advert that results in someone being scammed?

For me mate life is too short and I don't need that kind of trouble, the policy is that we will not knowingly allow the membership to be subjected to a possible hard sell through blatant open advertising in posts.

The company mentioned in this thread is a big business, this lassie is either a sub-contractor or employee or equivalent of zero hour employee, the issue one way or another is with a large company pushing its business onto this forum.

That still does not excuse the rudeness... but up to you how you run the site.

I don't think I was rude in any of my replies apart from me being curt when my warnings were being ignored in other posts on other threads.

In one of the threads that this lassie posted on "The worst pain" her post was completely off topic and was frankly quite insensitive and offensive in the context of the thread.

In the light of the range of initial posts here by this business the reaction by others was fairly tame to be honest.

Ach we're alright just now Bigmac :) no one is complaining, it is really not a lot of money, if it ever comes to being an issue I'm sure we will post something to the members.

What really is rude is becoming a member of this site and immediately posting several similarly worded messages advertising your wares.

It is also rude not to answer a perfectly reasonable question - a question not asked of you but which obviously niggled you. That question was about her visa status and I was actually trying to be helpful in reminding her that she would need a work visa in order to conduct her business here. Set up a stall in SM Mega Mall selling flats on Canvey Island whilst possessing a tourist visa and see how long you last. I'd give you a few days before your arrest and incarceration at BI's no-star resort hotel at Bicutan.

Had this young lady done any research at all into this site, she would have come to the conclusion that (1) the Filipino members want a relationship with / are engaged to / are married to someone from the UK and (2) intend to join their partner in this country and therefore (3) would probably not be interested in buying real property in the Philippines.

And some of us were having a bit of fun. Okay, fun at her expense but she'll need to toughen-up if she's to meet with prospective investors.

OSS.. We as ordinary members can only assume that these posts by new members are viewed by mods/admin etc before they are published/viewable by us..
If a post appears spammy then why not just send the person a quick message to explain why the post was not allowed with a warning not to repeat??
If a thread is published, then as far as we are concerned, its up for discussion.. Problem with that is, then we have to deal with the Internet Police
(John`s an internet Policeman)that come along and scold the thread starter and us for replying!!!
Hope you get my point and my insy wincy very tiny criticism!
