If they had done so, they would never have known that he was the wrong man, and the real killer would have gone free.

We were wandering around the Christmas markets in the Gothic Quarter of Barcelona yesterday. But it would have been impossible getting that form and size of truck into the tiny back streets here.

Now the German police a looking for a Tunisian man after finding an ID in the truck cab, it took them a long time to find it :)

Bit of an uproar now as German police cannot show a full picture of the suspect due to privacy laws, how crazy is that?

Apparently the new suspect is a failed asylum seeker who should have been deported a while back, more bad news for Merkel.

That privacy law is yet another Big Mistake by Ms Merkel who probably has more blood on her hands than any other western leader since World War 2. Despite the fact that 22 innocent Germans died at terrorist hands this year in their own country, that paragon of "Liberal Democracy" shamefully refuses to admit that opening the country to all-comers was wrong. Then she ties the hands of law enforcement with laws that give criminal suspects more rights than their victims.

The victims and their families deserve better than this, the suspects face has to be covered in the German media and they are not allowed to quote his second name.

A few surveillance cameras would not have gone amiss either in the centre of Berlin, they need to learn very quickly, its ridiculous.

As you rightfully say, the German police are handicapped in their search for the suspect.

If there are any Germans reading this, here is his picture from the Daily Mail.

And his name is Anis Amri.

Reports say the Polish driver was beaten stabbed and shot and that he may of been trying to stop the driver as the atrocity happened.
    RIP fellow driver

Interesting thing from that account is that the lorry was steered out of the crowd and back into the road, and they believe this was the Polish lorry driver trying to stop the attack before being shot and killed. He could easily have done nothing and possibly survived, and seems he deserves some recognition for his part in averting an even worse disaster.

Also, the open borders appear not to have played a part in this, and actually may have played something of a part in the suspect being caught as he was caught at a train station in Italy in the early hours. Had he stayed in Germany he may still be on the run.

If the open borders didn't play a part then how did he make his escape from Berlin to Milan?

If borders were in place he would have been met by armed Italian immigration on the train asking for his passport before he got to Milan as was once standard practice.

Seems a bit of a silly article.

Surprised that the terrorist chap was able to move so freely around Europe, Germany, France, Italy without any id after committing such a heinous crime.

Surely the French police could have carried out id checks on the trains. When I worked in Luxembourg and travelled to Strasbourg or Metz at weekend, the police always came through the train checking peoples id's, and making sure that their poodles got a good sniff of the passengers and their bags.

SUSPECT. Maybe the real killer is still out there, and can now roam free.

I think we can say with all certainty that the chap shot dead was the perpetrator, I believe Italian police have confirmed this by the way of the fingerprints found in the truck matching the ones of the chap in question.

If that was the case he must love the opportunities provided by the open borders of the Schengan area.

It looks extremely likely that he was the perpetrator. I have just read that he had tickets that showed he just travelled from France to Italy so evidence is building.
