Howdi, hopefully all going to plan we will be applying this April for my wifes visa to come live in the UK, the thing is my PC packed in last year so lost all our yahoo/skype history is gone ( nearly 6 years worth ), we dont call/sms each other because of online chat software, so question is how important is this for out visa app ? we have tons of photos from over the years plane tickets etc so we can prove in other ways our relationship is genuine..

    TIA..

When you say 'packed in', surely the HD can be connected as an external drive to another computer and read in some capacity?

If I was you I would give a brief explanation on the application form (there is a "additional information" blank page) and increase the amount of evidence you have relating to keeping in touch etc.

I wouldn't worry about it too much, if you have been an item for six years then you will have lots of other stuff to convince the UKVI that your relationship is sustaining.

Just a thought, why doesn't your good lady have the chat logs on her computer?

Just photoshop the dates then! Then print the pics small, so they can be barely read. Sorted. The Embassy staff can barely read their own manual anyway!

im a PS whizz kid :D the only thing about that is on her chat profiles she uses a kind of nickname but anyone who does read our chat can see were clearly a couple bickering about all sorts hahaa..

example of how our names appear..

    ######## 10:17:59 Me 4.48E+11 I'm. Looking at it now
######## 10:18:12 Loi 6.4E+11 Travel available Feb to may
    ######## 10:18:18 Me 4.48E+11 Photo Message

Her name is Marilou but she gets called Loi, so do you think that`s acceptable ?

Nah. You need to do deedpoll...

You should be ok if you can print a fb page with her nickname on as well, I guess. Coupled with flight info etc. and bookings in both your names - from my limited experience I don't see a problem.

The yahoo history should be archived online in your yahoo accounts if you used any recent version and agreed for the online storage.

If you can read the disk you will need special tools to read the skype database.

Ah the disk is dead, not worth the trouble trying to get it read by data recovery companies.

Get her to change the name to her name. Print it off. Then change it back again.

If you combine your available chat history with your wife's, then I think that would be fine. For our application, we submitted one screenshot of messages per month. We also submitted previous mobile bills (applicant's and sponsor's) and some recent screenshot call logs using FaceTime and Viber. I know someone who only submitted like a page or two of screenshot messages and still got the spouse visa last Christmas time. The ECO will surely check for other evidences of a continuing relationship anyway other than the chat history. Don't stress yourself too much about it.
