Are you in Manila already? This might be useless by now but airport to QC would take about 2 hours in a cab. I drive that distance with a time of 1.5hours. Goodluck!

My brother in law works in the Makati CBD and lives in the La Mesa area of QC; he commutes by motorbike and reckons 2- 2.5 hours in the rush hour.

Let the train take the strain.:like:

With just a backpack (carry on) and a local 'guide' all looks good.....
    (very late arrival excepted)
I'm sure your 'tour' will still on .....Philippine time and all that.

Yup, our office in along EDSA Pasay, near to the airport and my parents live in New Manila while we live in San Juan. 1.5hours from the airport is typical. 2 hours if the traffic is reallly bad.

You have to be smart about what route to take ;)

Just to update this, been to Phil, loved it. Made it to the assembly point in plenty of time, enjoyed the tour with no problems. FYI, took a taxi from the airport, took less than an hour.

I'll give an update on my flight with China Southern. In summary, it wasn't so bad and all the actual CS flights were on time. Bit of a rubbish system they have combining airlines as they lost my bag, but on the whole, not such a bad experience.

That's been my worry about using China Southern, my next trip I will have replacement computer parts in the hold luggage and I would be worried about losing those.

China Southern are still the cheapest but I still hear too many horror stories on the net about them.

Look forward to your report on CS :like:

How were the Hanging Coffins, the caves and the Rice Fields...and did you fit a trip to 100 Islands in?

Yes, I met a Filipina on the plane from China to Manila, and she said I could have the bag delivered to her address when they found it. Took them about a week, but they would refund up to $200 worth of replacement clothes should I have needed to buy any.

If I'm honest, after Sagada/Banaue, we spent most of our time in Monumento and the nearby areas. I loved every minute though. Ate loads of street food, gave balut a go (didn't get past eating the yolk, though). Got to know the local restaurant staff/supermarket staff.I've literally never been more happy. Hoping to spend my summer break over there, so a few months.

Edit: but would more likely be staying in Nueva Ecija than Manila.
