Hi everyone Just wanted to know if my wife can apply for her uk spouse visa in her married name, even tho her passport is in her maiden name. I have been led to believe this is ok as long as it is accompanied by a marriage certificate, but have had conflicting information on this. Thanks in advance
When my wife applied she had to go with what was in her passport, which was and still is her maiden name. So her visa is in her maiden name.
We will get her married name in her passport this weekend, when we change her passport ( expiry ) here in Britain.
Spouse visas now only last about 30 months before an extension is needed. So you can get a new passport (which will probably be needed) during the first course of the visa, then on the second spouse visa (the extension) get your wife's married name on there.
My wife has 2 passports, one that expired but also has her visa on it (with her maiden name) and her new one, with her married name on it. Next year, when we get the extension we will send off both passports but the new visa will go on the new passport.
Thanks guys Lastly, i know it sounds obvious, but i gotta ask, does that mean all the accompanying supporting documentation, e.g. the tb test, language test, etc all need to be in the maiden (passport) name also?
My wifes language test docs were in her maiden name. However the marriage cert and the passport combination should cover you if your Language test is in your married name and passport in your maiden name. We tried to keep it simple and keep everything in the wife's maiden name before her travelling to the UK so not to confuse the ECO A quick check with VFS should set your mind at rest.
Done. We applied for my wifes new passport today, here in Britain. With her married name inside instead of her maiden name.
Do i need to change my surname on my passport first before i switch to spousal visa? I have marriage visa which is valid for 6 months thats why i need to switch to spousal visa before my visa expires. I Just want to know if it is required to change my maiden name in my passport into married name?
You don't need to. It's up to you. As long as you apply in the same name as is in your passport it is fine. There is a part in the application that asks for other names you are known as. You can put your married name there.
It isn't a requirement to change the name in your passport to your married name before the FLR application, it just means that when the BRP is issued it will show your maiden name as the UKVI always take the name in your passport. If you do not have over three months to spare before the FLR application then you will not have time to apply and obtain a new passport from the Philippine Embassy in London. Note that the Philippine Embassy in London will no longer just amend the name after marriage, you have to apply for a new passport which in our case took three months. It is also worth remembering that once married in the UK you should register your marriage with the Philippine Embassy in London, the form is available on the Philippine Embassy website below; http://londonpe.dfa.gov.ph/ You should register your UK marriage within a year of the ceremony taking place otherwise there is an extra fee of £20 to be paid. Note that all transactions at the Philippine Embassy in London are cash, no debit/credit cards accepted.
