How difficult is it to be with a partner in the UK who is 40 yrs older than you. I've got visa already but not in UK yet and there's a possibility that I cant come to UK because my partner and his kids are really worried about the culture and society in the UK about what comments they will heard against my age. Any advice is very much welcome and appreciated.[IMG]

You, your partner and his family shouldn't be concerned what others will think. Its your life and you both should live it the way you want. People will probably comment but they are the small minded minority. Go for it!

    Don't worry about it.

HOWEVER I have been told that the ECO will look particularly closely at visas with a big age difference. Since you've got your visa already, no problem for you.

Get on that plane and find out for yourself!

It depends on how thick skinned you both are, because yes people anywhere in the world can be rude when they observe something different from the normal convention. But if you can ignore that and get on with your life, accept that you are free will and have made your choices and commit no matter what , then just get on with it and live your lives.

Life is too short to overthink these things.

    Hi ekim_mike,
I am 30 years older than my wife who lives in the UK with me and our two kids.
I think it is best to believe in yourself and not worry about anybody else's thoughts as those thoughts don't mean diddly squat.
Life is too short to waste time on negativity.

I'm old enough to be my wife's daddy. And I don't care 'cause my relationship is da bomb.

Nobody I've been with before comes remotely close to her in terms of compatibility, and that's what it's all about.

If Mrs M called me Daddy I'd give her a clip round the ear and send her to bed with no supper! :)

My wife and I always call each other "Mummy" and "Daddy". We do this so the kids understand things more easily.

I remember years ago meeting a surveyor in Brunei who had just taken his Filipina wife back to the UK for a holiday.
He told me he had heard disparaging remarks made about he and his wife and it affected him so much that he would never go back to the UK again.
I think it is important to be strong and confident walking out with our wives and family.
We are the ones who are thoughtful enough to have made wise decisions.

to be fair--i can understand some remarks may well have been said about us---usually by old women----after all--most 66 year old british guys are usually with someone of a similar age. However---i understand my ex wife--62 years old--is dating a guy 11 years younger than her. but he's getting a new guide dog soon.

Just come to the UK and suck it and see, remember you can always go back home, you're never more than 24 hours from home wherever you are in the world.

I dont get any hassle and we have a large age gap. I note some people look as opposed to stare. We have a woman at work (older) that I am sure has a lot to say on the matter but not to my face.

I never feel self conscious when I am out with my wife.

And to be fair most people are pretty pleasant to us when we are out and about. They love our cutsie baby.

We worked out what we are going to say:

"Hello, yes, I got her / he got me by mail order, she is /I am on sale or return!"

One thing to keep in mind - the same comments or worse are made in the Philippines by people who see a pretty younger woman with an older foreigner...
