Hi all. I apologise if my question is based on ignorance. My fiancee and I now have a fiancee visa, and plane tickets booked for the 13th of October. She of course has the 'no recourse to public funds' status in her visa. What has to be done for covering medical eventualities. Is it a matter of private health insurance, or is there something else that needs to be done. I think I remember reading something about paying a fee for access to the NHS or something, but can't find details now. Also, when registering for marriage (mid-ish January), what documents does she need to make sure that she brings. She'll have passport, birth certificate, and divorce certificate.
Whilst on fiance visa then no requirement to pay for medical cover but also no NHS cover. Emergency treatment will be covered but will get a bill for it. We had an expat medical policy but never used so no way of evaluating how good it was. Test with all insurance is what does it cover and do they pay which normally requires knowledge of a claim to assess. If want to mitigate this then some form of private coverage is required. When apply for FLR then have to pay the NHS surcharge which the provides NHS coverage as per normal citizens living in the UK.
Not being one of life's risk-takers, I took out medical insurance for my then fiancee for the 6-month period of her Fiancee Visa. I used IMG... not sure if I am allowed to Post a link (not really an endorsement - do your own research if you choose to!) but - imglobal dot com/
Think that is who we used as well. Never claimed so never know how good but as UK based then better backup in disputes. Cover seemed fairly good for an expat medical policy
Thanks to you both @Br28016 and @UKDJ. I'm also not one of life's risk-takers, and will look further into insurance. IMG seems a very good place to start. As my fiancée is Indonesian, I feel a bit of an interloper here. But, from reading the forum and asking questions, it seems like many things are very similar.
