    Guys,

Are there any medical examinations required or even desired before someone enters the UK, such as a chest X-ray?

    Kuya,
Solely in terms of Visa Requirements / Immigration Rules there are currently no demands for TB Chest X-Rays.
There is also no mandatory requirements for Medical Examinations.

However, having said that, as you may know there is an ongoing TB screening programme that will at some future point soon include Philippines as High Risk.
Although not yet implemented for the Philippines, some folks are reporting an increase in the number of Immigration Entry staff that are requesting X-rays prior to entry at Heathrow AND Gatwick.
(There's no facility at other airports)

All in all, I'd say if Joy will be arriving at an airport outside of Heathrow and Gatwick then it's not needed. Besides, she will very likely be given a card for automatic invitation/application to take one at a later date with her local NHS service point.

It's always a pretty good idea to have a medical check-up and bring relevant records with you IF there are some issues that would be helpful for NHS staff/GP here in UK.
Otherwise no need to do that.

Here are some very helpful links on the Screening issues. They don't take long to review and I think you'll find them worthwhile in coming to your own personal decision.

UKBA - New screening to tackle tuberculosis in the UK

Home Office - New screening to tackle tuberculosis in the UK

Health Protection Agency - pre-entry TB screening programme

    Hope it helps

I think Heathrow are a little like the testing ground for new changes, hence the massive delays there - and why I opted away from any flight to Manchester that first touched down in Heathrow!

Joy lands on Wednesday, just before any changes are implemented, so I am sure she will skip anything major. If they do ask her about a chest X-ray I won't be too bothered so long as like you it is just a question and a pointer to get a check up. That said, there is a GPs clinic just doors away from where I live so I will make sure Joy enrolls with that clinic within a day or two of arrival and I know the first thing they will do is insist on an all over checkup to make sure she is fine.

    Hello guys,

My wife is still based in the Philippines. She recently had her UK spouse visa granted and I am looking to get her over here as soon as possible. We paid for the visa fee online and completed the form online prior to the TB screening requirement which became a part of the visa process on February 28th 2013. I am confused as to whether she will need the testing or not because she will be arriving in the UK after 28th Feb, but she did not require the screening because we applied and paid for the visa before 28th Feb. As I see it she will not need the testing, I guess it will be a case of she lands at Heathrow and they will direct her to the clinic facility there. How would she be able to prove to the immigration officer that we applied before 28th Feb?

Any information would be much appreciated.
    Thank you for your time.

My wife landed in Heathrow 4 years ago and they took her name and contact phone number for the screening but no-one ever contacted her after that.

Yes, part of the Visa Application process is to submit a TB certificate with your visa application.
The certificate must be secured fromthe UKBA approved clinic in Manila.

Take a look at the UKBA page called - Tuberculosis testing in the Philippines

The fee for tuberculosis screening in the Philippines is P3200. You need to pay the clinic directly.
The cost of the test is in addition to the visa application fee.

The test fee does not cover treatment if you have tuberculosis.
