Makes interesting reading. Here's an extract:- quote Thirty-four million people in Japan, 25 million the United States, 20 million in the Philippines, 19 million Egypt and 16 million in Brazil are also in future 4 C seascapes. While the 2 C scenario is also grim, limiting warming to that extent would spare China and other nations much misery, said Strauss. "There is a world of difference between 2 C and 4 C, which threatens more than double the damage," he told AFP. "We have a very large choice ahead of us." The sea level rise corresponding to 2 C would eventually be 4.7 metres, and for 4 C almost double that, the study found. unquote Read more here
This global warming lark, is starting to become a worldwide nuisance, it is only a clever way to extort money under the guise of different taxes. Whilst I concede that an earth warming period may or may not be occurring, like many others I reckon it is a natural thing that happens every so many thousand of years.
Dom Science is not something you can just have and opinion on, Science is something that has an objective basis. The media hysteria around the so called 'climate gate' scandal some years back did a great disservice to both the public and the scientists trying to communicate their findings, you should watch this :- http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00y4yql/horizon-20102011-10-science-under-attack
It's only a guideline We are at 5 metres and flooded by 6metres, however saying that a combination of high tide and typhoon has flooded us 3 times already when the creek behind the house burst its banks due to run off and apparently issues with the dams right up past Marikina.
We had a house in Marikina City. Recently sold it although it took quite some time as many folks put off by stories of floods. In the 20 years we owned it we never once had any flood problem despite being just 1 few minute walk from the river. We did have the usual typhoon issues with leaking roof but we never actually lost the roof. It was a nice area and a really nice house that we built up over many years. Just no point in keeping it going.
The area we are in is down near the bay only about half a mile from the bay but although it is elevated it floods terribly when the rains come and are too much for the drainage system. What I will say is that houses over there weather a flood a lot better than ours, our lot just seem to wait for the water to go down and sweep the rest out the door or down the drain at the back of the kitchen, then they put the couch out to dryand a day or two later everything is fine again, although we did lose a couple of nice bits of furniture over the years.
Sorry for the off-topic but yesterday I saw someone using a pressure-washer to wash a fabric covered sofa. I noticed it's still outside drying today. Wonder if it was out all night in the rain. Looks so tatty I have to wonder who on earth would put the thing back inside the house. Only in the Philippines.
