hello...my gf arrived in the uk last december 6,initially we planned she only stay for the holidays, she put in her visa application that she stay for only 3 weeks and also in her landing card at the airport.but after christmas we decided to use up her visa since its valid for 6 months.and we already cancelled her return ticket that is supposed to be on january 1.our consultant advised us to email and call the home office to inform them that she will use up her visa.but when we did wrote an email we didnt get areply, and when we called, the numbers were very confusing.i just want to ask what fone number we can call to inform the home office about our plans so we wont have any problem in the future when we apply again for her visa..thank you.

If I was you, I wouldn't do that sort of thing on the 'phone. I would write a physical letter, recorded delivery, and keep a copy of it and proof of posting and hope that you get a written reply.

Honestly it was.because the first time she applied,we had to cancel her appointment because someone she met at the vfs ,who at that time was about to get her visa on that same day asked about the kind of visa she was applying for.and they had a long talk, and the lady told my gf what docs she has to submit.it was then she realized we had to cancel. And this nice lady introduced her to the immigration consultant ,and the consultant helped us what proper docs we shud submit.it was very hard if you don't know what docs you shud submit.its not that simple,we went through alot just gathering those papers.

Well that is what our consultant told us to do,as to avoid any conflict in the future when she apply again for a visa.the visa is good up to six months, but when she applied initially we planned only three weeks.but we just want to be sure we aren't breaking any law or somewhat being dishonest.

Thanks for the advise. We'll do that and I hope we get a reply, but what should we do if we didn't get a reply? How long shud we wait for their answer?its very frustrating sometimes, and ofcourse it was very hard to get my gf to come here.
And just like any other couple we want to be together as much as we can but ofcourse on the safe side.after her visit we definitely agreed she come back so we don't want any trouble.thanks again :)

If you have a 6 month visa then you can stay for 6 months.

If you had to leave on the originally planned date then they would have put that as the expiry date of the visa.

I can't see how it could be any other way.

What 'consultant' are you using? Is it a travel agency?

I don't see a problem here, I brought my partner to the UK in Dec 2009 set up a return ticket for her for a one month stay, once she was here I extended her ticket up to the time that I had planned to return to the Phils to our family over there, we left the UK together at the start of April 2010, no one batted an eyelid.

I would happily have extended her stay for the full 6 months if it had suited our other plans at the time, I had given her a sponsorship letter just in case and I went out to meet her at Amsterdam and we both entered the UK together, but she arrived in the UK with no cash or cards whatsoever.

I should add that she was travelling on her first world passport and not as a Filipino on a Philippine passport, but she still only had a six month entitlement same as the visa.

They call it Immigration Consultant.Alot of people tell us that there's really no problem if she will use up her visa, but we read in some forum that if she didn't do as she said like stayed longer than what she declared on her application, the next time she apply for visa they won't give her because she isn't honest or something...its really frustrating and confusing.

They don't even do proper exit checks at the airport in the UK so they won't know when she leaves except though any information that the airlines share with the government.

    Immigration consultant from where?

She has a 6 month visa. She can stay 6 months.

It's not something you need to stress about.

No problem there. If she has granted a 6 months visa, she can stay for 6 months. No need to inform anyone of your plans to have her stay for more than 3 weeks. If she stayed for more than 6 months, then you have a problem there.

Really seriously just don't bother at all, there is NO problem, they won't even have a clue as to when she leaves.

Just make damn sure that she goes home and makes no attempt to work while she is here.

Ah yes my wife met a 'nice lady' too who tried to persuade her to cancel, to go and get a TB test, and all sorts of other muck...

Beware of false prophets for true profit! Clearly it has worked out well for you though, and the motivations of the helper were more altruistic in your case.
