On 3rd/4th August there is a Philippines festival (Barrio?) on the Beach Green in Lancing, I would like to connect with the UK Filipino community, and thought of doing some litter picking around the site as a means of meeting people really,,, Would this be disrespectful or even insulting? ie suggesting that Filipinos are untidy or something?, I believe the opposite is true, last year they left it immaculate, much nicer than when they arrived,,, Thanks for any pointers,,,
Is there a local Facebook Filipino site for Lancing Or surrounding area? Has the Bario festival got a Facebook page? If so introduce yourself on there offer to help say hi etc etc be creative!
It might be bad etiquette to ask such a question, but what is your objective in connecting with the Filipino community? Do you do similar at the various other get-togethers for the many different communities in the UK? As an aside, I think that littering is actually a bad trait amongst many Filipinos, though those in the UK don't appear anywhere near as blasé as those still in the Philippines.
Thanks yes I regularly attend litter picks and beach cleans, have my own picker and hoop!,,, I was the original cause of what is now Keep Lancing Lovely, although everything it is now was created by others,,, I am interested in connecting with the Filipino community because I want to find a lovely (I'm sure they all are) Filipino to settle down for life with, by that I do mean marriage,,, So why do I wish to find a Filipino lady? simple because I am a very nice person and therefore deserve one!,,, It was not bad etiquette to ask that question at all, thank you for taking an interest in my situation,,,
It might freak people out if a stranger dressed as a garbage collector "gate crashes" the festival and starts chatting up the ladies. Just saying.
I think you need to make a placard and stand outside the churches hospitals etc Wording could be I am a nice guy honest! Some lucky girl deserves me
are you fully aware of the eye watering costs over 5 years of marrying a foreign national and getting a UK settlement visa ?
Furry muff. Other than being fully prepared for the costs of marriage to a non EU national, you would also need to be aware that there will be a very limited (available) talent pool at the Barrio Fiesta and you will be far from unique in their eyes as a single British guy. In fact, as my mate Dave alluded to above, it could be bit peculiar and a bit too obvious if the volunteer litter picker is chatting with the ladies. Don’t be fooled into thinking that it will be easier to date a Filipina when she is already in the UK vs dating a British girl. If you are serious in your quest, would strongly recommend a visit to the country itself where the talent pool will be overflowing and you will have a much stronger unique selling point.
If Pete55 manages to meet her in the UK through his imagination and determined, proactive attitude, he may indeed meet a nice Filipina already in the UK (Perhaps no large financial outlay then). “Nothing beats a failure but a try.” Go for it, Pete and you never know Let us know if you succeed.....stranger things have happened.
what a nice thing to do.. there might be a single filipina in that barrio fiesta.. who knows.. no harm in trying.. good luck!
There's a job for life for you litter-picking here in the Phils.... that's if you don't have a heart attack at the sight of all the filth and garbage covering practically every square foot of the place. Yes, it's a pet hate of mine. As my Mrs says.... "They just don't care". Good luck in your search for a Filipina mate anyway. I'm a right idiot, and I managed to find a little beauty when I was 5 years older than you. (67 now, and got pretty young ladies here chasing me all the time. )
