A very good reason never to give up your British Passport is that you can travel visa-free to 173 destinations out of a possible list of 218 destinations.. http://www.independent.co.uk/travel...sport-is-no1-for-visafree-travel-8854369.html I assume by visa-free they also mean visa-on-arrival?
I have only ever heard of one person that considered it and that was Johncar on here, I agree I would never surrender my citizenship, John on the other hand is well into retirement, I believe on a Police pension so he is likely to have been retired already for quite a while and he has very specific and valid reasons to consider it where he and his wife live.

Johncar has good reasons and in any case he is retaining his Irish citizenship which should be at least as good for travel.
I just checked and Johncar is very nearly as well off with his Irish citizenship: Ireland rates joint fourth on the list, with 170 countries offering a visa on arrival; the UK is joint first with Finland and Sweden, with 173 nations doing so. https://www.henleyglobal.com/filead... I have not yet renounced my British Nationality. Briefly I 'need' to do it so that as an Irish National (I have dual nationality) I can take my wife to UK and Gib without her needing to obtain a visa or any other paperwork. We have been to Gib a couple of times, me using my Irish Passport but not disclosing that I am also British. . To use my British PP I need to have worked in Europe. I recently sent an email to Gib explaining I do 'work' but it is unpaid. This is the exchange:- Sent: 29 September To: Austin Viagas (Immigration) Subject: entry to Gibraltar I am a British national living in Spain with my non EU wife. She has permanent Resident Status. I understand that if I have worked in Europe (outside UK ) my wife can accompany me to visit Gibraltar without requiring a visa (Surinder Singh ? ) I have been a voluntary worker with the National Police, for 15 years and for a while with the Guardia Civil, although of course without payment. I have a an official ID issued by the National Police showing that I am a 'Colablrador-Interprete' Does that permit me to take my wife with me to visit Gibraltar ? Reply Dear Sir Thank you for your enquiry. Your wife may enter Gibraltar if accompanied by yourself with her Spanish residency card which should state that she is a family member of an EU National. Kind Regards Austin Viagas Executive Officer Immigration Department Royal Gibraltar Police Duke of Kent House Secretary's Lane Gibraltar Tel: +350 20061564 Fax: +350 20074198 So it seems the interpretation of ‘Work' may include unpaid work. We will go to Gib and 'test' the situation. If that works then it should also work for a visit to UK. Best regards to all John
