I'm sending this on behalf of a new member, Mary. Any responses appreciated. :-

I was just looking to see if i could get some answers.

I had been traveling to the UK numerously as part of my work.
Honestly, I do not have intention of living or working there permanently. At the moment.
My family and I are based in the UAE for more than a decade now.

The reason why I was led to this page was because i was trying to find out something.

I am 6wks pregnant and will travel to the UK soon.
My boss told me that i may need to stay longer than usual (i normally stay a week or 2 not more) as one of our staff has just resigned.
If so, what would happen if i gave birth in the UK while there for work?
I have a type C (Visit) visa that allows me 180days stay.
What passport would my baby get incase he/she is born there?

    Thanks.
    Mary

At least one parent has to be a settled British citizen for the child to get a British Passport.
You can get maternity care (it cannot be refused) but you may get charged by Nhs

As long as your company is going to pay for any medical bill you may incur in case you give birth here, you shouldnt be worried. The NHS would be charging you for the said services.

Then as mentioned by the rest of members, unlike the US where the child get the US passport because they are born in the US (even when both parents are on tourist or working visa), the UK has a different rule. Unless your husband is british, then your kid will be getting ph passport.

It might present a difficulty for you- how soon will you travel back to the UAE? It takes about 8-12 weeks before you get ph passport then from there get a uae residence visa- which im not sure how you will do it from the UK (ie will the uae embassy in the UK issue them for a person without the necessary residence permit in the uk but a valid uae residency?).
