If Greece either leave the EU zone or are kicked out and get back their Drachma (new monopoly money).. Could somewhere like Crete or Corfu become a potential retirement destination for Brits,Yanks etc?
If you are able to buy land with UK Pounds or USD at that time then I can see an opportunity..
Or have I got it all wrong?

I think we will have to see how it all unfolds over the next week or so and see what sort of state Greece is likely to be in.

Certainly a great place, good food and lovely and relaxed eating culture, when I first worked there I had it in my mind it would be like Turkey, thankfully it was nothing like that dump its a great place. I had one complaint about both places though, I didn't like the beer which was at the time very unusual for me :)

I didnt like the beer either and the food always swam in Olive oil.
Ouzo and orange was OK though!!

Greece can be cold in winter time, even colder than Scotland. Minus 5 in Athens on average. Could be some property bargains, but Would wait to see what happens next.

Never been there, can't comment I'm afraid, it will obviously depend on the discount on whatever new currency arises from this mess.

The initial discount could be expensive if the new currency devalues fast or goes so far that it gets into hyperinflation territory, good chance that could happen at some point it will depend on who they can borrow from after the event.

The goal of the discount will be to bury the re-denominated debt as quick as possible, but how far can they go and still eat?

They could easily borrow from China`s new world bank with the proviso that the Chinese develop the new Sparta!
Think I might have opened a can of worms now.
