    Hi guys,

I hope everyone is happy and healthy.

I am due to marry in June..in the Phils.
I made a trip in March and thought I had jumped through all the hoops.
There is one box waiting for it's tick.
I am divorced and despite providing my decree absolute which states my wedding was in a register office and not in any church I have been asked to provide a sworn oath stating that at the time of my previous wedding neither myself or my ex wife were practicing any religion.

Do I need a solicitor involved? Costs are mounting so I want to avoid this if possible.
Could I write the oath myself and get a solicitor to witness, sign and stamp it?

Sorry I appear a bit dumb in these matters.

    Anyone come across this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Many thanks,

    Phil and Christine

I got a paper from the local council in Aberdeen titled "Certificate of no impedance", cost - Zero and was accepted by every system here when we were married here, both my wife and I had been married before, we were both British citizens ( although wife born here as Filipina )

I got married there in 2014 and just shown my divorce papers with the court stamp on it and date when divorced, was never asked anything else. I was not married in a church there, so not know about it.

The Catholic Church has different rules on this.

I am not Catholic - and as I understand it the Pope has recently made some changes - but I think the idea is that if you were married in the sight of God you cannot marry again whilst your ex is alive, but if your marriage was Godless it may not count.

It might be worth while to have a chat with your nearest Catholic priest to be quite sure about what is needed.
