So when you do this English test (Trinity) that is good for future applications too if you do it at B1 level?

It will save a couple of bob if that is the case.

You can't do the B1 if going for FLR. It will only let you do the A1.

You select the visa you are applying for and it takes you to the appropriate test.

No problem with that in my opinion. It cuts out any confusion.

    But adds to the cost.

I can understand an English Test with the first visa but I cant for the life of me understand why the loved ones have to take one after that.

150 quid. Won't kill you in the long run and bearing in mind how confused we've all been getting with English tests I'm glad for this system.

We actually wasted one test going to a back street test place that did s test valid for ILR but not FLR. Ridiculous state of affairs.

I would imagine an A1 will last for 2 applications.

Yep do the ILR one as long as there's no expiry of course

If you passed the test at B1 level already then no need to retake....

Does that mean that at the point of ILR your wife will have taken 3 English tests, Halo Halo?

No the wife has done just the 1. Pre-April changes allowed even English test with an expiration date to be used in an ongoing visa application, as long as it was on the list of valid English tests of course. Hence why we've only had to do the 1. Post April rules means a new one is required it would seem despite the exam (IELTS) still being on the list I'm told and same with the governing body where the exam was taken (British Council - Makati), again still a valid test centre.

Its a real carry on eh!

Glad we are through that bit of the process. It has been one of the most difficult elements of the whole thing, since day one, for us.

It is, a right royal pain in the bum :) The bit that really freaks me out would be if I lost my job just a few month before an application. I'm so pessimistic :D Imagine though, what do you do then? British kids in tow and the wife has to go back, it would be crazy.

If you think about it, it would be more of a cost to the government because I'd have to focus on the kids, leave the job because child care would be impossible to manage. Scares me to death thinking about it!

The wife does work too of course but its just part time right now

I agree with you, its a worry throughout the process whether or not you will remain in work to meet the requirements, none of know what the future holds.

Most of you chaps wont be aware but about the time we were looking at a Spouse visa the UKVI had rejigged and revamped the whole ELT setup in the Philippines and elsewhere. Couldnt get any sense out of anyone for a while.

We ended up with Hopkins on the then new approved list and what a lot of fun and games they turned out to be.

    I found this earlier, this gives all the in and outs of the English Test requirements, I'm just too tired to read it :);

Like I said before, I believe the interests of the baby would be the biggest factor in your case.
