Hi to everyone again,...been a very busy period at work lately and had not much free time to log-in.
The reality of the situation is now staring us both in the face,...we put our house here in UK on the market to test the waters ,..and got a bite and an offer yesterday for the money we were looking for,...wow !
Decisions , decisions,..... now instead of thinking about how we will fare if we moved over to live in our house in Cebu,..it's now become a reality !
But,....before we decide on anything,..what do we need to do to secure my wife's ability to return to UK say after 5 years if it don't work out ??
I read that if she is out of the country for more than 3 years she will have to start the visa proccess all over again ?? ( she is on ILR at the moment and has been here for 8 years )
The problem that I see is that if it's true,..and I already have the forms to fill in,... what do I write in the box that asks " where will you be residing" .." UK or outside European countries"
    (or words to that effect)
Can my wife still gain UK citizenship if she is planning on going back to the Philippines in the next few months ?
Yes,..I know we should have applied for it a long time ago,..but I never knew about it till earlier on this forum.

Would like to here anyone's knowledge please,

    Jonny

I'd recommend getting the citizenship right away. Since she is on ILR, that should not be hard. She can (and she should) retain her Filipina citizenship.

    I agree with Mr Methersgate.

Then reapply for a Philippine passport for the purposes of dual nationality.

How long has she been on ILR for? Would that be 6 years? If so I beleive that she should be able to apply for citizenship right away.

Margie has been here for about 8 years ,...went through the fiance / limited leave / then indefinite leave,.... so will be about 5 and half years I think on the ILR. I'm just wondering if she will get the citizenship if she reveals that she is intending going back to the Philippines within 2-3 months ?

Similiar to my wife who has been in the Uk for 9 yrs now and only got her brit citiznship this year. My advice is to get it as soon as possible to allow easier travel and allow unrestricted entry back to the uk if required. She will have to do the "living in the UK test" and fill out the required forms. Think you'll be looking at about 900 quid all in. At the time I was told if she is only on a ILR visa she could only be out of the UK for 30 days of the year averaged over 3 yrs. Any more than this and the ILR visa becomes void. You would then have to start all over again from scratch, not sure if you'd be able to apply for a ILR straight away again or whether you'd have go thjrough the whole visa process again.

Hope that is of some help.

Wife already has taken her 'life in UK ' test a few years ago and passed,....you need that to get your ILR (well you did then).
We have the forum to fill in,..but I was just wondering about the question of where you will be staying once you have your citizenship ....

I am learning like you. My wife will be doing citizenship next year. We had a look at the form today to see what it entails.

With ILR in the UK there is a same day service as an option, now. But I don't know how it works with Citizenship.
