I am espressely forbidden by my delectable wife to mention the name of the hotel we recently stayed in Enfield, but "Comfort" there was none...
Better start at the beginning then....
As we were going to London, to have Jets passport renewed, I thought that it would be much better that I shouldn't drive around the place, as it would be too stressful to my dicky ticker, having to find places to park, plus congestion charges and what not. So I booked a room online for a couple of nights, in Enfield.... 60 quid per night, result, I thought..... Cheap as chips....
Anyway, on checking in at this AA 3 star venue, we were told that the online price did NOT include breakfast, and if we wanted to avail ourselves of this service, we had to pay £9.99 each, per day.... Now then.... If there was a cafe nearby, I would have said no, but unfortunately there wasn't, so I succumbed, and dished out another 40 quid or thereabouts...
Room on second floor.. Grrrrrr... 3 star.... No elevator..... Arrived upstairs after some puffing and panting, and the room wasn't up to scratch at all...
The double bed, was two singles of different sizes, height, lenght and width, stuck together, The dust of ages, on the dado rail and the furniture, the carpet hadn't seen a vacum cleaner for a while, a few cobwebs here and there, windows could have done with a wash inside and outside, and the general smell of decrepity hanging over the place.... It needed slightly more than a lick of paint and TLC....

It was late-ish, and we were both hungry, on enquiring at the reception, I found out that any eating places were in town proper and as I wanted to have a drink or two, it would not have been too wise driving, and too expensive to use a taxi, so we ate in the hotel's restaurant... Well... We tried....
We ordered a couple of rumpsteaks with pepper sauce , mushrooms and chips, 1 medium rare and Jet's medium well done (no blood)... The food arrived near enough one hour later, and looked like a dog's dinner... Ant the pepper sauce, obviously a boil-in-the-bag effort, was still ice cold and poured over the steaks in a lumpy form... The meat was not cooked as we asked but both steaks were "blue", so duly sent them back, with the assurance that the chef would cook some fresh ones... I didn't reckon on the England vs Switzerland game being played that night.... Anyway, after extra time, I reckon, the same steaks returned, washed of any sauce evidence, which was this time placed in small pots, still in a lumpy form....
My steak was like cardboard, and Jet's was charred... We left them there, I complained bitterly until the charge was waived, and went to bed hungry in a foul mood.

What can go wrong with cooking a steak?????? It ain't nuclear science, for crying out loud...!!!
What's wrong with keeping a hotel clean...???
I am of half a mind of getting my credit card refunded.....
