Your baggage allowance will be limited and I guess you are going to have a lot to take given that you are getting married so whatever you go for will have to be very very small.

Perfume for mama is always nice and is a duty free item but is not in the inexpensive league, honestly duty free Swiss chocolate bought in Amsterdam or when you get to the duty free in Manila is the best bet, t-shirts and the like are always appreciated but add to your luggage and you don't want that.

I have taken low price watches, old (but good) cellphones, t-shirts, chocolates boxes from Makro, for example a box of 48 small Lindt chocolate bars but again that weighs a lot, I often had lots of space baggage capacity because of status with the airline, so I could manage this, but a lot harder on standard baggage allowance. Necklaces are another option for the ladies usually with a a cross, even if they are cheap they are often appreciated. Costume type jewellery for younger girls in the family is ok as well.

For me it is a kind of scale, I take something a bit more expensive for Nanay, perfume for Ana, chocolates for everyone else and
cigarettes for the guys usually (not that I condone smoking it is just something they appreciate).

Your problems are compounded by having to travel again from Manila down south so your baggage allowance will probably not be the same on the way down and if you try to pick up some stuff in Manila it will get worse.

    Tricky question mate :)

Kuya, oss picks up on a good point, baggage allowance and space constraints.
Had you considered send a Balikbayan Box? If you send within the next few weeks it will be sure to arrive in time.
Just give the instruction that when it arrives no-one should open it.

That way you can think about T-shirts, Chocolates, England/London souvenirs, hand-bags etc
Doesn't need to be a 'jumbo' box.

Worth considering, but you need to act fairly quickly now.

I agree with Micawber Kuya.. Send a small balikbayan box where you can all put ur pasalubong... Chocolates, tshirts (not branded), you can buy in primark especially for kids they only cost £1 or £1.50, perfumes and watches... If you send it next month then it will be there by the time you're there too :)

The difficult thing now is that even if you are very strapped for cash Pasalubong is, culturally, really important, returning travellers have to provide something :(

We had a bit of that in the past too but people travel so much these days that it is no longer so important to most folks.

Primark :D love it, basically Uki-Uki is it it not? :D

The shameful thing is that you can actually buy clothes in places like Primark cheaper than a lot of places in the Phils!

(please note, I am not a snob or mayabang I have bought plenty from Primark and other cheap outlets over the years I see no problem with this :) )

Hmmm, I could always get the ferry from Manila to Mindanao. It cuts out the baggage allowance. Then again, Joy will be with me! Baggage allowance x2;)

Another excellent place is 'Sports Direct' if there is one nearby.

When my daughter was here we bought so much stuff like Nike,Reebok,Karrimore,Adidas etc and all and such cheap prices.
She was so excited because she said it was much much cheaper than Phils and evryone would be so happy.

Sports Direct, good thinking Peter. I need to go there soon for some boots. Got some last year a week before the snow fell. How good was that timing?

Marmite? Oh what a good idea? Perhaps some lucky Manila based taxi driver might get a jar as a tip, I'll tell him it tastes like chocolate...

That is certainly one idea and I did think about the fact that Joy might be able to help with the baggage allowance ;) just be sure to check that it matches what KLM will allow and what you take with you in the first place.

The boat is a good idea, never done it myself but I should one day! :like: how does it compare against the price of a flight?

I love Primark when it comes to tshirts for kids, lolz! I find their tshirts really nice and good quality at an affordable prices. sent loads for my pamangkins too. Actually some of my friendly neighbours asked to buy their kids aswell coz they are cheap and better quality than those they can buy in PI with the same price or less. Well of cors they said they will pay them but I didn't let them pay it. As I treat their kids as my pamangkins too :)

Every time my wife sends something, she invariably taked the sale price off the labels, and leaves the original starting price...:erm:

It is a very "subtle" way to "hint" the nearest and dearest about the exorbitant costs of things in the UK.............. I reckon..........:erm:
