Hi everyone! So I found out that I can use SECPA Marriage certificate to attend my CFO seminar. .just wnat to ask, can I attend the seminar without a passport? Cause by then my application is already submitted to british embassy, just want to make everything prepared before my visa arrives Thank you so much!

You can attend the CFO seminar and get the certificate of attendance before you have received the Visa but you will have to go back to the CFO after receiving your visaed Passport in order to obtain the very necessary CFO sticker.
Agree. You can attend the seminar and get the certificate but you have to return with the passport containing the entry clearance and the certificate in order to have the CFO sticker affixed to your passport.
Thank you everyone for the kind reply, yeah I'm planning to return to them once I have my valid visa..just wondering if I can attend the seminar without my valid passport.... Cause my visa application will be ongoing, british embassy will be holding my passport for the meantime.

Have you got a certified copy of your passport to show? My wife says - maybe. You could try printing the email from the vfs or embassy and showing them it. They will not issue the sticker and cfo cert until they see all the documents, even if they let you sit the seminar. On reflection, now she says no, it is not worth it - she was with women who returned with extra documents and were ignored time and time again. They had to keep returning and waiting hours and hours and some were messed about for weeks and even longer. My wife just got lucky - see cfo thread. It is better in her opinion to cancel your appountment and have all documents for your next one as it will be so much smoother. The cfo is easy so better you will almost gurantee it finished in one day by having correct documentation.
Hi Erica, Just wanted to share my experience with the CFO seminar/ CFO Guidance Counseling, a pre-requisite for Filipinos married to foreigners to have their passport [changed] under their married name. You can't get a new passport if you don't attend this seminar. It was in September last year that I attended the seminar. I brought the following documents: 1. Duly Accomplished Guidance Counseling Form 2. NSO Marriage Certificate 3. At least 2 Valid ID's ( my PRC license and my previous passport under my maiden name). One spare ID was left at the guard 4. My husband's photocopy of passport and divorce decree ( It was my initiative to bring my husband's divorce decree though not specified in the list of requirements. During the submission of documents, I was asked to include it. And also details were needed in the form I filled in). 5. Payment of Php 400.00 for counseling fee. Note: You can also bring other supporting documents you have, just in case, to save time and effort. Also, have your documents photocopied so you won't be running around to the photocopier. Come at least an hour and a half before your schedule. They are very strict in terms of time. It took me just half day to finish everything and got my Guidance Certificate immediately. After releasing, I was advised to return once my visa (eea fp in my case) is released to get the CFO sticker (the most important one). By the way after the seminar you will be interviewed separately. During my interview, I was asked to show our photos together. I just browsed my phone in front of the interviewer. I do all these myself, had some research to avoid mistakes. Hope this helps Erica. my wife took it too without a passport has she was doing it to get a new passport, she just took valid id ,just like the documents Patven has said.

Sorry for the late reply, I got si busy this week running around for my spouse visa application and so yesterday February 26th I submitted my application in VFS! @Timmers thank you for the link itska a big help, @PatVen thank you for sharing your experience, I took a screen shot of your reply and see to it that I'll follow it. @deanobeano thank you for confirming to me that I can attend without my valid passport, as it is already in British embassy. OMG I'm getting so nervous but need to keep sane lol. I'm going to request for SECPA of marriage certificate in city hall, I'll use that for my CFO seminar. And Yes I already have my NSO marriage certificate but it's in British embassy for my application. I heard its hard to get slots for cfo seminar My husband and I planned that if I can't get a slot here in Manila then I'll fly to cebu.
I think it's worth pointing out that more than one copy of NSO certificates can be ordered... if anyone is about to do so.
get at least 4 NSO certs we lost our last to the Fils Embassy for passport renewal and name change and we started with 4 5 years ago
Hi Erica you could attend CFO seminar without passport, but they only give you a CFO certificate. CFO certificate is one of the requirements for passport if you are married to foreign citizen. Once you have your passport and visa you could go back to the CFO office and get the CFO sticker without attending again the seminar but for you to be easy they have CFO office in NIA Terminal 3 Manila airport and you could get your CFO sticker there on the day of your flight.
