    Hi everyone

My wife is having to apply for an extension to her expiring Philippine passport as she has to travel urgently back to the Philippines and has less than 6 months left on it.
Does anyone have any experience of travelling to the Philippines with an extended passport and if so, were there any issues with the airline staff or immigration . She will not be entering any other countries but will be travelling via Dubai and will only have a 2 hour transit within Dubai airport.
    Thank you all

I take it you mean that the extension is needed for her ultimate return from the Philippines to here in the UK?

Philippine passport holders should be able to enter the Philippines whatever the amount of time remaining on their Philippine passport, it would be the later exit from the Philippines that could get complicated and the renewal process in the Philippines is awkward and time consuming these days.

What leave to remain status does your wife have?
Will her return date not be before her passport expires?

    Hi
She is on FLR in UK with BRP. She can apply for ILR next March.
I understand the airline require 6 months minimum on a passport, and her current passport would expire during the trip in any case . She will be returning to the UK.
I have now had a reply from the airline saying they accept extended passports .

I think the rules are different when you are a resident as opposed to visitor. Six month rule is I believe to ensure can travel home during trip. Airlines will be people to ask. Transiting through Dubai shouldn't be the issue. Issue will be getting on plane in in Philippines on way back.

If in Philippines for long enough temptation would be to renew there based on time to get appointment and subsequent processing time in UK but been a while since got passport in Philippines so may be in more complicated now.

That said need to have a valid passport so passport extension may be only option.

Yeah the problem now in the Philippines is that you can't just turn up at the DFA office and ask for a renewal, you have to secure an appointment online and those can be up to a couple of months from when you apply for an appoinment.

I'm planning on being the in Phils in December and was planning on helping my kids do the online passport appoinment application in mid October to try to get an appointment in December.

The airline would only have a problem with a Filipino with less than 6 months on their passport returning to the Philippines if there was a chance that a transit would not be completely airside i.e. a chance of the person entering the transit country for a short while in this case Dubai.

A transit inside Dubai airport would not be a problem on the outward journey.

Hi. I asked my airline and they say they will accept the extended passport. My wife is going to try to renew her passport while she is in the Philippines. She has been told there is an express option to get it renewed which she was told takes 7 working days, but this costs more. However its worth a go. If that happens, any issues coming home will be solved.
