    Good evening to all,
May I know if any of you renewed your passport recently? Did they start the 10 yr validity of Philippine passports? I am planning to renew mine next month and request to change my last name as well. I know I have to pay for penalties as I didn't submit/declare my marriage to our embassy straight away. I was just waiting for the right time to renew before submitting it and will just pay for penalties.
Another thing, how can I apply for the renewal of my passport in London? How long does it take recently since people said it should be quicker because of our President. Does it take 3 months to renew it? My Philippine passport is valid till 2019, but I want to renew because I want to change my surname and I need to apply ILR in Aug. 2018 which I dont want to complicate things for my application, our embassy will allow me to renew my passport, right? I just want to ask here before going to London as train tickets are expensive from Lake District. I want to be prepared so that my time in London won't get wasted.
    Sorry for the long post.
    TIA

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 2) — Philippine passports will now be valid for 10 years from the previous five years.

This after President Rodrigo Duterte signed Republic Act (RA) No.10928 Wednesday, amending Section 10 of RA 8239 or the Philippine Passport Act of 1996.

RA 10928 states regular passports "issued under this Act shall be valid for a period of 10 years" from the current five years under RA 8239 provides, "Regular passports issued under this Act shall be valid for a period of five (5) years."

It clarifies however, that individuals under 18 years old shall be issued passports valid for only five years.

Thanks KeithAngel for the info. However, I wish to renew my passport next month, I don't think I could wait for the outreach. Isle of Man is just an island away, but I would think travel time going there and London would just be the same.

Thanks Bootsonground. Yes, I've read that article on the first day of their announcement through CNN Phil and AbS CBN. I was just wondering if anyone here applied for the renewal recently and if 10 yr has started already. I want to know their experience and if they were informed when would be the release of their passports.

It takes about 8 weeks from the time you apply before you get the renewed passport.

We'll have to wait for someone to let us know when this becomes effective- i know they say asap but there are rules to be followed before it can be implemented. For example- any new law have to published on the national gazette and would take effect 30 days after that (at the minimum). Next the respective offices (foreign affairs dept) would have to write, issue implementing rules and regulation to know the details.

It would be easier to know if you know someone in ph who have recently applied for passport and then check if they got the 10 yr or 5 yr one.

Or call the embassy - they should know how many years its valid now.

They are still handing out 5 year passports in the Philippines as of a couple of weeks ago.

Thanks Maley and Porkadobo. When I read the document signed by Duterte, it says, it will start after 14 days when they announced it. However, I'm not quite sure about their regulations in London. Unfortunately, I don't know anyone in PH who would get their passports renewed this month. I might have to wait a little bit. Thanks for your time guys.
