At the ASEAN Conference in Brunei this week, President Aquino stated that the country would most likely adopt Japan's "Integrated Service Digital Broadcasting - Terrestrial" rather than its European competitor "Digital Video Broadcasting - Terrestrial 2" with switch-over to take place by 2015. This will replace the country's antiquated analog system. ISDB-T is not only cheaper than DVB-T but "it can also be used as a early warning mechanism during natural disasters" said Gamaliel Cordoba, Commissioner of the Philippine National Telecommunications Commission.

The NTC is holding one last hearing with stakeholders and the President is likely to confirm ISDB-T's adoption during his state visit to Japan in December.

Presumably this is for over the air Broadcast TV?

I wonder what will happen to all the analog cable companies, and I also wonder long it will take all those poor people lucky enough to have scrounged together enough for a working TV set to get enough money together for a Digibox.

Yeah but even a 1000 peso is a lot to a lot of folk over there.

Also remember that most of our technology is just expensive Chinese crap ;) like the iPhone ;) (ok designed in the US but assembled by slaves)
