I was asked yesterday to check the current blackmail charges levied at the airports and I came across this snippet of news...

I am not sure wether we posted this before at it seems rather recent, and it was hidden away from prying eyes...

Reading the short article, cannot but help being rather dubious about a couple of points stated on it.

This is not going to work, and they know it. Too many people relay on that last minute cash and power trip.........

This, to me, means that people entitled to a refund, will have to queue somewhere and be open to some kind of time pressure to give up claiming as the plane is ready to leave, and haven't probably gone through the last security checks... Or the queue is far too large or they haven't any more money to refund... Come back next time.... kind of thing...

Whichever way they chose, it will be open to abuse by unscrupolous officers.

On the whole it is a very good idea if policed properly, and should have been implemented zillions of years ago...

    Any views anyone...??

Travel Tax is going nowhere but up its one of the mechanisms to keep us all at home all fuels will get pricier and the poorest will be affected first as always.

In 20 years cheap flights will be done and dusted:like:

Yeah, Governments hate how we spend money overseas taking it out of the domestic economy..

There are people that work and work, then save up for that amazing holiday. I even know one man who works without a day off but then takes off 4 months a year and heads overseas. Self employed, so he can do that sort of thing.

I am self-employed but the working time directive stops me from working every day, and besides, 55-60 hours a week is enough anyway.
As an artic driver, we have POA (Periods Of Availability) which takes us up from the 48 hours.
It is more stressful that salaried work but I have the flexibility to just say "sod it" when I want, and the 6 weeks in the Philippines next Jan/Feb will be just the ticket after no proper holiday for us for two years.
For me, agency work is the way to go for now.

You met my brother ? lol

Nope just kidding, although he and many other long timetravelers did that for years, working a few months a year in their home countreis to travel through SEA or other continents.

I always kind of admired my older brother being 8 or 9 months "on the road" ,but then again i saw him working a fulltime job and then "doubleshifting" as taxidriver at nights and fulltime weekends i did not really envied him anymore.

On the terminal fees i actually look forward to it, i don't think it will be much of a hassle, they already mostly collect the "Travel tax" this way (with the ticketprice included)

Why they kept so long to the old collectors model i can only "assume" they did it as a kind of "Job and department creation". As they often do in the Government offices. The Gov is stillthe largest employer here and they need Jobs desperately.
Reminds me often on old East Germany, everyone had a job ( The socialist "right of employment" lol), but not everyone worked.

Yeah it was always just a makee - workee thing, in a country full of people why use a computer or one person when 3 could do the same job for less money.

Exactly and it will stay that way as long as the birth rate remains as high as it is, sadly I have not helped in that respect.
